Amissville, VA: Pandit and Sudha Patil are pleased to announce that Narmada Winery has received the top honor “Best of SHOW” at the 13th Atlantic Seaboard Wine Competition for Narmada’s 2013 Cabernet Franc Reserve.  The award was presented to Sudha Patil, Narmada’s winemaker, at the Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association’s formal reception with the Congressional Wine Caucus on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, December 13th.

The Congressional Wine Caucus was formed in 1999 with the goal of emphasizing to Congressional members the importance of the wine industry in their respective districts.  The Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association promotes awareness of the top-quality wine being produced in the 17-state region from Maine to Florida which border the Atlantic including Vermont, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.  This year, a panel of highly trained independent judges from CA, FL, GA, LA, MD, NC, PA, RI, and VA evaluated 467 wines produced in 12 states from the region.  The Competition issued 73 gold medals, 165 silver medals and 148 Bronze medals.

Narmada’s 2013 Cabernet Franc Reserve won a “Gold Medal” award, “Best in Category” award as well as “Best of SHOW”.  Narmada’s 2013 Cabernet Franc Reserve is primarily Cabernet Franc blended with Petit Verdot giving it a full and rich, laden with berry, clove and black pepper flavor. Narmada Winery has received an impressive number of awards in its short history, including Best of Class, but this is its first overall “Best of SHOW” award.  Narmada’s 2013 Cabernet Franc Reserve will be presented along with other winners from the competition at the Unified Wine and Grape Symposium, the main wine industry convention held in Sacramento, CA, which usually draws 30,000 attendees.

Narmada Winery also received a “Silver Medal” award for it’s 2014 Yash Vir; a classic Bordeaux style blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvingon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc grapes.  The wine is named for two of Sudha and Pandit’s grandchildren, Yash and Vir, which mean “success” and “bravery” respectively.  Sudha has been producing Yash Vir since 2009 and a Vertical Tasting of its vintages spanning the years 2009-2012 can be enjoyed at Narmada’s tasting room in Amissville, VA.

With vineyards planted more than a decade ago, the winery and tasting room opened in 2009. The wines are made by Sudha Patil, who combines her background in chemistry with an extremely sensitive palate to create elegant, graceful wines which pair easily with many different cuisines. “We invite you to come visit us at the winery,” says Pandit. “Enjoy our deck overlooking the grapes that will become this year’s harvest.”  Sudha adds, “I think it is a wonderful experience to actually see where the grapes are grown, and where the wine is made and cellared. It’s only natural to accompany your fresh, locally produced food with locally produced wines!”

Narmada Wines are available in local wine shops, grocery stores and restaurants.  For a full list of locations or to purchase online visit www.narmadawinery.com.  It’s “Best of SHOW” 2013 Cabernet Franc Reserve is available for purchase at the Winery’s tasting room for $38 and its 2014 Yash Vir sells for $36.
