New Outdoor Patio and Expanded Culinary Program Offer Refreshing Options for Summertime Sipping

SONOMA, CA, July 10, 2017—Lake Sonoma Winery announces the release of its 2016 Rosé of Sangiovese, a fruitful and refreshing summertime sipper that pairs well with salads, seafood, cheese plates, and all manner of fresh seasonal dishes.

Deep pink in color, with 14.2% alcohol by volume, the 2016 Rosé is made from 98% Sangiovese and 2% Pinot Blanc grapes grown in

Sonoma County, where warm summer days and cool nights provide ideal growing conditions. The wine is made using a process called saignee (French for “bleeding”), which entails removing the juice from the skins after a short period of contact. This brief co-mingling of skins and juice gives this rosé its deep and vibrant color and rich aromatics, with ripe plum and raspberry on the palate and notes of candied ginger and pineapple on the finish.

“Despite its playful, vivid color and bright, fruitful flavors, our 2016 Rosé is a wine to take seriously,” said Kat Doescher, winemaker. “Those who know rosés will appreciate its classically elegant structure, which is intended to complement our favorite summertime foods.”

Located in the heart of Sonoma just off the town’s central plaza, Lake Sonoma Winery has expanded its tasting opportunities with a lounge area furnished with leather sofas and chairs, and a newly remodeled outdoor patio, where fire pits, umbrella tables, and landscaping create a comfortable indoor-outdoor setting. The tasting room also includes a seated wine bar, where guests may choose wine tasting flights composed not only of Lake Sonoma Winery wines, but also those of its sister winery, Valley of the Moon at Madrone Estate.

The tasting room, lounge area, and outdoor patio are open daily from 1 PM to 8 PM, providing a showcase both for wine tasting and Lake Sonoma Winery’s new culinary program. Led by estate Chef Sam Badolato, the program offers food and wine pairings, including cheese and charcuterie, artisanal cheeses, and other nibbles. The extended tasting room hours allow visitors to add Lake Sonoma Winery to their evening out, as either a before- or after-dinner tasting opportunity. The winery also offers a series of special tasting and wine education events; see the website for details.

Lake Sonoma Winery is owned by the Stewart Family, third- generation, pioneering West Coast winemakers who have assembled a portfolio of prestigious wine brands, including Valley of the Moon Winery at Madrone Estate in Sonoma Valley, Lake Sonoma Winery (Sonoma County), and Quails’ Gate – Okanagan Valley (British Columbia).  Their winemaking philosophy focuses on crafting small lots that celebrate each varietal and sub-appellation of the region, allowing each wine to fully express the grape variety, specific terroir, and artistry of the winemaker.

The Lake Sonoma Winery tasting room is located at 134 Church Street in Sonoma, California, just off the Sonoma Plaza. Visitors may access the tasting room from First St. West, between the Sign of the Bear culinary shop and the Fairmont Gallery.  For information on operating hours, tasting opportunities, and the culinary program, visit the winery’s website at www.lakesonomawinery.com.
