New design puts contributions to winemaking and Napa Valley at forefront

charles-krug-new-labelST. HELENA, Calif., October 25, 2016 – Charles Krug Winery announced today a brand refresh including new packaging and label redesign, an updated website and online shopping experience, a renewed investment in social media and a refocused marketing approach, all designed to better communicate their position as Napa Valley’s oldest and most experienced winery.

“This investment in brand marketing is a small example of how, even with over a century of experience, we consistently move forward as we grow our consumer base and share our story and our wines,” said Peter Mondavi Jr., Co-proprietor at Charles Krug Winery. “This new website and updated packaging encapsulates our history, family and the classic Napa Valley wine within the bottle.”

Utilizing input from consumer research in the design process, the final label design will appear on all wines within the Charles Krug portfolio while calling attention to the winery’s prestigious position as a leader and pioneer in Napa Valley. Various cue’s pay tribute to their history and innovation, including an embossed cider press which is a nod to ground breaking winery founder Charles Krug who was the first to consider using a cider press in winemaking. A call-out box on the front label of the Napa Valley tier collection offers historical facts pertaining to the winery’s relevance in Napa Valley, placing Charles Krug winery within the larger context of winemaking innovation.

The new packaging will roll out through the entire portfolio starting with the release of the 2015 Charles Krug Chardonnay and 2013 Charles Krug Merlot. The new design was created by international award winning packaging design agency, Stranger & Stranger.

ABOUT CHARLES KRUG:

Charles Krug Winery, Napa Valley’s oldest winery, was established by Prussian immigrant Charles Krug in 1861. In 1943, Italian immigrants Cesare and Rosa Mondavi purchased the historic property, which remains a family-owned winery producing estate-driven Napa Valley wines.  Built on a foundation of family values, hard work and European winemaking tradition, the winery offers a portfolio of Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-style wines. The winery is under the direction of Peter Mondavi Jr. and Marc Mondavi, who steward the family business passed to them by their father, legendary Napa Valley wine icon Peter Mondavi Sr.  The family is now proudly welcoming members of the fourth generation to the business, continuing a legacy started over 70 years ago and setting a foundation for generations to come.
