Gloria Ferrer Winemaker Steven UrbergTasting Pinot Noir from tank on Monday at Gloria Ferrer winemaker Steven Urberg comments.

“We are now three quarters of the way through the sparkling pinot noir harvest at Gloria Ferrer and we are just beginning to get into the sparkling chardonnay.  The sparkling chardonnay should come in quickly and by early next week we should be done with the sparkling grapes all together, moving well into the still pinot noir harvest. Yesterday, we began picking still pinot noir from block L2 Dijon clone.  This is the block that produces wine for our Dijon clone selection.

While this harvest began early, the cool weather has tempered the ripening and has kept picking at a moderate pace. So far we are very happy with the harvest and the quality of fruit coming into the winery.

We are now at the point where the first fruit that we harvested is beginning to go dry and we are beginning to get a taste of the base wines that will be the vintage 2016.”
