Brooklyn OenologyMay 24, 2016, Brooklyn, NY – Brooklyn Oenology, the first urban winery in New York and pioneer of “Brooklyn Terroir,”  will celebrate its 10th anniversary in June 2016.

Founded by winemaker Alie Shaper in 2006, Brooklyn Oenology (BOE) is a locally focused winery that sources its grapes from the North Fork of Long Island and the Finger Lakes. BOE started with just two wines:  Merlot and Chardonnay.  They were instant successes and Alie recognized the opportunity to introduce consumers to quality New York State wines.  More wines were added to the label and today, Brooklyn Oenology offers 13 different cuveés.  In addition to the main line, Alie produces “Shindig” wines, in collaboration with Andrew Stover of Siema Wines for his Vino50 portfolio, which are sold alongside BOE. Recently, she also created “As If,” a line of artisanal, boutique wines, which will launch in September.

In addition to sourcing New York grapes, BOE draws upon the local arts scene to create its identity. Each wine’s label showcases contemporary art by a Brooklyn artist and features a new piece of work for each vintage. They’re not just for viewing; they are double-layer, easy-to-peel stickers, so the customer can preserve the artwork.

In 2010, the BOE Tasting Room opened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. A haven for locals and tourists alike, customers can try the full line of BOE wines, as well as wine, beer, cider, spirits, and foodstuffs from other New York purveyors. The tasting room also serves as an art gallery and features rotating shows throughout the year.

In honor of this milestone anniversary, BOE will be celebrating throughout the entire month of June with various events and special treats.

Library Flights:  Starting June 3, flights of older vintages will be offered on the Tasting Room menu. Guests will have the opportunity to taste historical vintages, including the wines that started it all: the 2005 Chardonnay and 2005 Merlot.

Retrospective Art Shows: The Tasting Room will host two gallery shows during the summer that pay tribute to the artists who have contributed to BOE labels over the past ten years. The first will be on display June 22 – August 2 and the second show will run August 3 – September 12.  In total, 28 artists will participate in the showcase, showing a mix of new and favorite works.

Commemorative Labels: The new releases of the 2014 Chardonnay and 2013 Merlot will feature limited-edition labels, commemorating the past 10 years of BOE. A limited quantity of these uniquely labeled bottles will be available for wine club members and for sale in the tasting room.

Social Media: Throughout the entire month of June via their social media channels,  BOE will feature people who have built the BOE community. From loyal tasting room customers to the production facility staff to BOE team members, their stories will be told on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.  Follow #BOEfamily, #BrooklynTerroir,  and #10yearsBOE.

Finally, the celebration will culminate with the Anniversary Party on Friday, June 24, at 6pm at the Brooklyn Oenology Tasting Room.  In addition to the full line of BOE wines and the special library flights, a unique sparkling orange wine, created only for the evening, will be on the menu.

Wine at the Finish Line, a Long Island based caterer, will be serving a unique oyster dish and wine-infused macarons.  $1 oysters and meat and cheese platters will also be available.

Brooklyn Oenology 10 years

Brooklyn Oenology Winery (pron. ‘EN-ology’, or simply ‘BOE’), is a locally-focused winery based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, founded in 2006 by winemaker Alie Shaper. BOE extends the fundamental idea of terroir, which is essentially a combination of factors that create a wine’s sense of “place,” by incorporating the local agricultural, creative culinary, and art worlds.

BOE is creating award-winning wines as well as a unique territory: Brooklyn Terroir. The wines are a celebration of the cultural inheritance and artisanal revolution that define Brooklyn. We invite you to visit us in The Tasting Room and Wine Bar, located at 209 Wythe Street in Williamsburg. www.brooklynoenology.com
