Winner Will Receive Trip to Verona and Tuition to Attend the Second Annual Valpolicella Education Program in January

New York, NY (November, 2018) — This fall, the Consorzio per la Tutela dei Vini Valpolicella celebrates 50 years of protecting and promoting the wines of the Valpolicella region in Italy. To mark this momentous occasion, the Consortium invites member of the wine trade and media to participate in an exclusive competition with the winner receiving a trip to Verona and a full scholarship to attend the Valpolicella Education Program (VEP) in January 2019. All who wish to participate must first take a qualifying online quiz, which tests their familiarity with Valpolicella Denominazione di Origine Controllata wines: Valpolicella DOC, Valpolicella Ripasso DOC, Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, and Recioto della Valpolicella DOCG. All entrants who pass the online qualifier will then be invited to the gorgeous Eventi Hotel in New York City on Tuesday, November 13th, 2018 for a short in-person exam; the VEP committee will select one winner from this group.

Established in 2018, the VEP was born with the aim of creating a highly specialized course about the winegrowing territory, viticulture, and wines of Valpolicella, dedicated to trade operators, journalists, and influencers. After the VEP course and examination, new certified Valpolicella Wine Specialists (VWS) will be able to talk about wine and territory with knowledge and expertise through specialized training.

“It is our pleasure to welcome sommeliers, wine professionals, and members of the media to the inaugural VEP competition in the United States this year,” says Director Olga Bussinello. “It is our hope that whomever graduates from the VEP program will be involved in the promotional events of the Consortium and will become an advocate for Valpolicella wines within their market.”

To participate, take the online survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8SYKY5L) by Friday, November 9th. The short in-person exam will take place at the SECOND at The Eventi Hotel (849 6th Avenue, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10001) on Tuesday, November 13th at 10:00am. After the competition, to continue their yearlong 50th anniversary celebration, Valpolicella will host a seminar and tasting focusing on the increasingly popular Valpolicella Ripasso DOC wine. All will be followed by a light lunch. This competition and event are open to trade professionals and members of the media only.
