Bordeaux classification to include 270 chateaux from seven prestigious Médoc appellations

New York, NY, September 26, 2018 – The Crus Bourgeois du Médoc (www.cru-bourgeois.com), one of the oldest and most prestigious classifications in Bordeaux, are pleased to announce the Official Selection of chateaux for the highly anticipated 2016 vintage.

The 2016 vintage is the Crus Bourgeois du Médoc’s 9th Official Selection since the relaunch of the classification in 2010 and includes 270 chateaux from the prestigious Médoc AOCs of Médoc, Haut-Médoc, Listrac-Médoc, Moulis, Margaux, Pauillac, and Saint-Estèphe. This year’s official selection will see a total of 33 million bottles bearing the proprietary ‘Cru Bourgeois’ authentication sticker released worldwide, representing approximately 32% of the Médoc’s total production for the vintage.

In order to be classified as a Crus Bourgeois du Médoc wine, each vintage submitted by chateaux for consideration must go through a government-approved quality assurance procedure which approves the quality of a given volume of wine and provides a guarantee of this quality to the consumer. In this process, each wine is tasted blind by an external group of professional tasters and evaluated by an independent body based on a set of specifications before being commercialized. This makes the ‘Cru Bourgeois’ quality approach unique in the wine industry, and a benchmark for Bordeaux and the rest of France. Furthermore, the ‘Cru Bourgeois’ authentication sticker that is affixed on each bottle, provides consumers with a guarantee of quality that can be attributed to this tasting process and can be traced via the Crus Bourgeois du Médoc website for authenticity.

‘Cru Bourgeois’ wines offer incredible diversity and excellent value for the money, with wines ranging from $20-$50 a bottle. Since 2013, the number of Crus Bourgeois du Médoc distributed in the U.S. has grown from 130 to 180. Today, nearly 70% of the Crus Bourgeois du Médoc are available on the U.S. market and in most fine wine stores throughout the country.
