Valley of the Moon BottleSONOMA, CA, AUGUST 4, 2016—Valley of the Moon wines, located on one of California’s oldest winemaking estates dating back to 1863, today unveils new labels for its prestigious portfolio of hand-crafted varietals.

The new label updates and refreshes the brand’s image while maintaining a visual connection with its 150-year-old tradition. The dominant theme focuses on the wines’ provenance, the historic Madrone Estate in the Sonoma Valley. The estate was among the very first vineyards planted in what would later become Sonoma County, and it is among the first wineries established in California.

“Valley of the Moon represents a time in the evolution of the winery from Madrone,” said Tony Stewart, CEO of Bacas Family Estates and a member of the third generation of the winemaking Stewart family. “It pays respects to the Domenici and Parducci Families,” previous custodians of Madrone Estate.

Continued Stewart, “It was also our belief that Valley of the Moon was the most remembered name, given that it was the name for 71 of the 150-plus years of the property’s history.”

The family’s investment in rebranding and quality improvements aim to elevate the brand and convey its historical significance, Stewart explains.

“Our intent with the new label design was not to rebrand this historic winery, but rather to refresh it with a cleaner, more accessible and easily readable graphic treatment, with the dominant visual element being the physical place where these wines originate,” said Tony Auston of the Auston Design Group, the veteran label designer who created the new look.
