Madison County Winery TapsDES MOINES, IA – (June 14, 2016) –Three native Iowa wines from Madison County Winery have been added to Iowa Taproom’s vast selection, among other restaurants in the metro.  Wine on tap is the revolution in vino sales and is becoming increasingly popular in bars and restaurants across the U.S., and Iowa is no exception.

Madison County Winery is among the first Iowa wineries to embrace kegged wine. They currently feature Hunters Moon (off-dry white), Strawberry Blonde (semi-sweet white), and Lollipop (sweet red) at the Iowa Taproom and for Avenue of the Saints Amphitheater events. Strawberry Blonde is also featured on tap at the Winterset Hy-Vee Market Grille and Club 2000 and is set to expand to more restaurants through 2016.

“Madison County Winery is thrilled to now offer a selection of our wine in keg form,” said owner, Doug Bakker. “It has been valuable to reach a new market of consumers in Downtown Des Moines with some of our crowd favorites”.

Wine in stainless steel kegs offers sustainability that minimizes the use of throwaway packaging and it can be reused for decades. Where glass bottles have a large carbon footprint, this draft system is both a cost effective and user-friendly way to distribute wine. With each fill/refill a 5-gallon keg eliminates 26 bottles, corks, labels, capsules and packaging, making it a more eco-friendly option.

“We began working on kegging wine nearly three years ago for local Des Moines’ events,” said Bakker. “We plan to continue to expand our selection of draft wine to meet the ever-growing demand in the area”.

Kegged wine ensures the last glass served is as good as the first with no spoilage, corkage, oxidation, or exposure to sunlight, unlike the traditional bottling method where an opened bottle of wine is only good for three to five days. It also utilizes the tap system already in place at most bars, making it easier for bars and restaurants to carry these wines on draft and reduces the amount of wine discarded if an open bottle spoils.

Stop by the Iowa Taproom, Club 2000 and the Winterset Hy-Vee Market Grille to try Madison County Winery wine on tap. These wines will also be on tap at music festivals held at Avenue of the Saints Amphitheater in St. Charles, IA.
