May 5 Community Celebration Hosted by Students and Faculty of Wine Business Institute
Rohnert Park, California – The School of Business and Economics (SBE) at Sonoma State University (SSU) today announced the sixth vintage from Sonoma State Cellars, a project of the Wine Business Institute (WBI) that provides hands-on learning of the process and particulars of running a wine business. The 2015 Sauvignon Blanc from Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley will be revealed during a special community appreciation event on Thursday, May 5 at 6 p.m. at deLorimier Winery in Geyserville. The event is open to the public and features wine tasting, food selections, and live music. Since 2010, students in wine business have partnered with Kokomo Winery and Wilson Artisan Wineries as part of the Sonoma State Cellars project.
“Experiential learning sets Sonoma apart and this project has been a learning laboratory. We’re grateful to our alumni and winery partners for their time and energy in mentoring students and providing continuity to such a unique learning experience,” Ray Johnson, Director of the Wine Business Institute said.
The idea for Sonoma State Cellars was conceived by MBA students Liza Goldstein, Kendal Georgeson, Abigail Smyth, and Leah McNally, who conducted a feasibility study of the proposed brand with Dr. Armand Gilinsky, Korbel Professor of Wine Business. Past vintages include the 2011 Cuvee, 2012 Cuvee, and 2013 Cuvee and Zinfandel, all from Dry Creek Valley.
A public information session regarding SSU’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs in wine business will precede the May 5 community event at 5:15 p.m. For more information about the Sonoma State Cellars project or to attend the event, please RSVP or contact (707) 664-3235.
