Double Gold and Beyond for Local Wineries
April 26, 2016 (Baltimore, MD)- Wines from 14 Maryland wineries earned honors in the 16th Annual Finger Lakes International Wine Competition. Held in Rochester, NY in March, the competition is known as the world’s largest wine competition to support a charity, and is open to all commercial wineries from all wine-producing countries.
“Maryland earned high marks in this highly competitive tasting,” said Kevin Atticks, executive director of the Maryland Wineries Association. “This is further proof of the superb quality wines being produced in the Free State.”
Linganore Winecellars earned a Double Gold for its Terrapin White, and gold medals were awarded to Chateau Bu-De Cabernet Franc 2014 and Port of Leonardtown Winery’s 1634 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2014.
Over 3,708 wines were entered from 940 wineries, 27 countries, 6 Canadian Provinces, and all 50 United States. The competition judges awarded 108 Double Gold, 200 Gold, 1,423 Silver and 1,308 Bronze medals this year.
