When asked to comment about Mr. Perdue’s quote, Stephen M Reustle Owner/Winemaker of Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards humbly commented, “It is an honor to receive recognition like this from these discriminating judges. Please understand, winemaking at Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards is a TEAM effort, and we have a great staff supporting all of our efforts here in the Umpqua Valley.”

According to Mr. Perdue, High praise is not new for Reustle, “Earlier this year, Reustle won two double golds and one gold medal at the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition in California. Last winter, the winery won two unanimous Double Platinum awards at Wine Press Northwest’s year-end best-of-the-best competition. That capped a year in which Reustle won 26 gold medals (or better) at various national and international competitions.  The highlight was when Reustle’s 2012 Masada Bloc Syrah was deemed best New World Syrah at the Six Nations Wine Challenge in Australia.”

While the “Best of Class” designation is a huge victory for Reustle, the DOUBLE GOLDMedals for both their 2014 Grüner Veltliner and 2014 Grüner Veltliner Reserve tell Reustlethat he is consistently doing something right with the varietal that he first commercially introduced to the USA. Reustle has earned a GOLD or higher Medal with his Grüner Veltliner every year since he began competing in 2009.

Reustle was pleased with this year’s results, winning 17 medals at Savor NW. Reustle’shistory at Savor NW includes previous “Best of Class” designations for his Tempranillo, Malbec, Pinot Noir Reserve, and Syrah. This year adding a “Best of Class” for a white wine,Reustle stated, “It is nice to see the judges appreciate our white wines this year. It indicates the quality of white wines we produce rivals that of our more recognized red wines.”

Returning to the 2016 “Best of Class” Viognier, Reustle’s website describes their 2014 Viognier as Elegance, power, and definition!!! Juicy-fruit gum and luscious tropical fruit aromas of ripe banana, papaya and pineapple are anchored by a distinctive mineral note. This wine offers a generous mouth-feel… full and round… with a distinctive oily texture that fills the palate and powers its way through a bright, balanced, long, spicy finish with an elegant “kiss” of oak.”

Consistently receiving praise from wine professionals across through the wine-world, Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards wines are bringing International attention to the Umpqua Valley. Mr. Reustle was quoted in the Feb/March 2016 SOMMJournal saying, “We’re beginning to see there are quality wineries here making world class wines.”
