17th January 2024 – Effective immediately, Wine Scholar Guild is delighted to announce that Preston Mohr has been appointed Managing Director. Mohr joined WSG in late 2021 and has served as Sales &  Marketing Director for the last two years. Born and raised in Minneapolis, Mohr has lived in Paris for the last 18 years. A dual citizen of France and the United States, Mohr graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BA in art history, and then from Georgia State University with a masters in global hospitality management. Mohr wine credentials include the Level 4 Diploma from WSET and the Wine Scholar Guild Champagne Masters.

In less than 20 years, Wine Scholar Guild (WSG) has established itself as the leading provider of specialized certification programs on the wines of France, Italy, and Spain with a school network of over 130 schools, spanning 30 countries on 5 continents.

Following two years of spectacular growth, the team at WSG has grown from 14 to 19 full-time employees supported by more than 150 contributors under the direction of Academic Advisor Andrew Jefford.

According to Preston Mohr: “Our recent growth is partially due to an increased focus on our core values, but it is also thanks to our ongoing commitment to working with the very best instructors and contributors, a community of wine professionals and educators that are recognized as the most respected names in the industry.”

Mohr is very enthusiastic about WSG’s future: “As an independent organization, we can quickly pivot and respond to the market’s demands. Our success as the leader in the  specialized wine education space since 2005 has allowed us to build a name for ourselves, and our dedicated and loyal students are clamoring for more. The world is increasingly global as compared to our founding year. Online education is now a ‘new normal’ but we were already well-positioned and prepared for this change as we’ve always been a pioneer in online education. WSG will continue to be the ultimate source of knowledge for the wine  obsessed. Wine drinkers now understand that wine is about the people and places behind the labels. It’s no longer about quantity or simple categorization of styles or grapes, it’s about quality and authenticity. WSG invites our students to join this movement to help us champion authentic wines through the world’s premier immersive online, in-person and study abroad programs.”

WSG also announces two other appointments effective immediately:

Justin Martindale MW joins as Membership & Community Manager. Justin became a  Master of Wine in 2022 and is specialized in wine education. Prior to joining WSG, Justin  owned and operated Lothian Wine School in Edinburgh, where he worked as head tutor  teaching wine courses, masterclasses and bespoke private events.

Courtney Carroll joins as Sales & Marketing Director. Courtney is working on a MSc in  Viticulture and Œnology from Plumpton College writing her thesis on Regenerative  Viticulture. She spent the last 15 years working in product development, marketing, brand  positioning, strategy, and acquisition of wines and spirits for the US and international market.
