It is the first de-alcoholized wine winery to achieve this confirming its commitment to sustainability.

Valbuena de Duero, Spain, 11th January 2024 – Bodega Win Sin Alcohol, a world leader in the production of alcohol-free wines, has recently obtained the Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection certificate. This sustainability certification has been created specifically for wineries by the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV).

Bodega Win Sin Alcohol commitment to sustainability and the environment has been relentless since 2004. Now this commitment has been recognized by obtaining the Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection certificate. This certification is promoted and validated by the Spanish Wine Federation and is aimed at the continuous improvement and sustainability of wineries by acting on four pillars: Environmental, Social, Economic and Governance.

“The winery has developed a business strategy based on sustainable development, respect for the environment, and the implementation of different activities, measures and projects related to these values. We believe in it, and it is part of our legacy and business philosophy,” says Beatriz Moro, president of Bodega Win Sin Alcohol.

To achieve the certificate, Bodega Win® Sin Alcohol has developed an extensive plan to reduce emissions, energy and water consumption, waste generation and biodiversity. Besides, the winery has made an effort to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels, focusing on green energies.

As a result of this effort, the winery has achieved a 43% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions measured in tons of CO2 per Liter of dealcoholized wine, and the total elimination of Scope 2 emissions with the use of 100% electricity from renewable energy sources, equivalent to the planting of 326 trees.

In addition to the use of green energies in the winery, specific actions stand out, such as the reduction of the weight of the bottles or the elimination of the sleeves in their labelling, replacing them with traditional labels. This results in lighter packaging that reduces CO2 emissions associated with both the production of labels and the weight of the bottles.

Likewise, energy and water consumption per Liter of dealcoholized wine have been reduced. Specifically, the use of electricity + propane gas has been reduced by 32% with respect to the base year, and water consumption by 6% per Liter of dealcoholized wine. Furthermore, the winery has photovoltaic panels for self-consumption, which produce 11% of the energy consumed in the facility.

In recent years, non-alcoholic wine has become one of the trends in the sector, with a high projection in the younger segments. Different consulting firms and international wine market studies include non-alcoholic wines as one of the ten trends in the sector for the coming years.

Wellness and healthy products are a growing concern today. Today’s consumers are modern-minded and committed to health and the environment. These consumers experiment with attractive, healthy, sustainable beverages with no alcohol or added sugar.

The Valladolid wine company began researching non-alcoholic wines in 2003, becoming a pioneer in this segment, and today has a complete portfolio of references suitable for all audiences. The winery has been focused on consumers who cannot or do not want to drink alcohol, and in high growth in international markets. The different references of Win and Sonríe, the two brands marketed by the company, are produced at the Bodega Win Sin Alcohol in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid). These special wines follow a totally natural production process, starting with a wine made from grapes coming from its own vineyards.

About Bodega Win Sin Alcohol

Bodega Win Sin Alcohol is the result of a research project initiated in 2004 to meet the growing demand for alcohol-free, low-calorie products that maintain practically all the aromas and flavors of wine. This winery is the first in the world capable of de-alcoholizing a natural wine to 0% alcohol content. It is an exclusive production process developed entirely in Spain and anticipating the growing demand for this type of wine, becoming a wine without alcohol, without sugars and with vegan certification.

The winery has a process that respects the raw material and is patented. It highlights the way in which the aromas and alcohol are separated from the rest of the components. Thus, the organoleptic properties remain very similar to those of wine with alcohol, preserving all its goodness: polyphenols, antioxidants and anthocyanins.
