Lompoc, CA (February 17, 2022) – Flying Goat Cellars will host a reception honoring artist Neil Andersson on Friday, February 25, 4-6pm at the tasting Room. Andersson’s artwork is on exhibit at the Tasting Room, located at 1520 E. Chestnut Court in Lompoc, through the end of March.

Neil Andersson’s paintings reflect a personal style akin to the 19th century plein air (outdoor painting) movement in Europe – which he has developed and refined through nearly four decades of painting on location. Highlighted in his show at Flying Goat Cellars is a group of medium-sized to small plein air paintings of the landscape in and around Lompoc. He says they were completed during several sessions and present a fresh, direct approach to painting. “Plein air painting offers an enjoyable balance to the challenges of larger, more complex studio works, as well as the benefit of being outside. The larger studio paintings still retain the influence of direct observation, but are more fully realized,” said Andersson.

Andersson received his MFA in painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where he studied under Robert Skaggs and Ted Halkin. He has taught art K-12 and university levels in Washington State, served on the Tacoma Arts Commission, and is currently on the  board of the Lompoc Valley Art Association and Gallery Los Olivos.

He concurrently has a career in music as a guitarist and composer and has recorded numerous discs with various groups. He is the founding member of the renowned Gypsy Jazz group Pearl Django.
