Historic winery undergoing renaissance to greatly benefit from direction of new leader

Napa, Calif., June 11, 2019 – Today, Clos Du Val Winery announced the promotion of Jon-Mark Chappellet to President. Chappellet most recently served as Director of Operations for the winery. In his new role he will be responsible for furthering the Goelet family’s vision, ensuring the continuation of high quality, sustainable winemaking practices, and engineering a strategic roadmap to success for many years to come.

Chappellet joined Clos Du Val in September 2015 and has served as a cornerstone for the company the last four years. During his time, he has helped to write a new chapter in the Clos Du Val story, which includes a commitment to the finest viticultural practices and focus on the estate wine program. He brings a unique set of skills, passion and a deep knowledge of the industry that will continue to make Clos Du Val a well-respected and successful winery not only in the Napa Valley but world-wide.

Throughout a career spanning a quarter century, Chappellet has established himself as a viticultural and winemaking innovator, a master of growing Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and a holistic leader. The son of renowned vintners Donn and Molly Chappellet, he was raised on Napa Valley’s Pritchard Hill, where he learned the art of winegrowing from the ground up.

“His temperament, determination, creativity and collaboration are all what is needed to lead this company to great things, and my family is delighted that he is up for the challenge,” said Olav Goelet, third generation owner and newly appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors. Goelet further iterated, “I look forward to working closely with Jon-Mark, and the rest of the Clos Du Val team, to ensure that our shared goals are achieved.”

Chappellet looks forward to making Clos Du Val a collaborative space, both internally and externally, with the broader community. In addition to unity, Chappellet hopes to continue focusing on sustainable practices, pursuing the right products and strategies for targeted markets and capitalizing on opportunities to stay relevant in a constantly changing industry.

“I want to be able to offer some renewed clarity of our vision as a company. I want to engage from the vantage point of having the experience of already being here. I’m not a new entity here, and I think I have a lot of insight into what is needed to help move the company forward,” said Chappellet.

Chappellet goes on to say, “The Goelet’s dedication to this property and brand is something we can count on. The fact that this family has owned the winery since the 1970s gives us the ability to imagine what the next 50 years look like.”
