Napa, Calif. (March 29, 2018) – David Galzignato is returning to Napa, where he gained favorable notice while helping craft wines at several iconic wineries, as the newly appointed Senior Winemaker and General Manager at Rutherford’s Provenance Vineyards.

Most recently he has served as Winemaker at boutique winery Jada Vineyards in Paso Robles, making wines from the Willow Creek district that critics describe as “bold yet refined”.

Earlier, his Napa pedigree includes time at Charles Krug, Lewis Cellars and Paraduxx.  After graduating from UC Davis with degrees in both Viticulture and Enology as well as Italian, the Hayward native moved to Italy and gained experience in the cellar before returning and working with Columbia Crest in Washington.

That wide range of experience, he says, led him to a winemaking style best described as “living on the edge between classic and contemporary,” combining modern techniques with an appreciation for well- established techniques that stand the test of time.  While at Charles Krug, he worked with legendary consulting winemaker Denis Malbec, where he gained insights from Malbec’s time as Maître de Chai at Chateau Latour.

In Paso Robles, his wines have been called “dense and seductive, yet still balanced, integrated and refined” and he is looking forward to exploring Rutherford and the array of vineyards he’ll have access to for Provenance.  “I have always felt at home in Napa Valley.  Harvest 2018 will be my 21st vintage focusing on Estate and vineyard designate varietal focused wines.  I’m excited by what the Provenance winery, vineyards and team have to offer.”

Provenance currently produces estate and single vineyard expressions of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Malbec Rosé, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Fortitude, a limited release Cabernet Sauvignon showcase for Napa appellations.
