Napa, Calif. (March 29, 2018) – Provenance Vineyards is set to debut an all-new Carneros Chardonnay, available nationwide in April for $35 (750 ml bottle). As the winery name suggests, the pedigree of Provenance wines is of utmost importance, and this new bottling reflects the unique terroir and exceptional qualities from the Carneros AVA.

Since its founding in 1999, Provenance has sought to produce wines which bring their unique origin to life at the table. Produced from some of the region’s best wine grape growers, Provenance Carneros Chardonnay is predominantly sourced from Sangiacomo and Winery Lake vineyards, as well as other Carneros AVA vineyard sites, famous for their rolling hills, and the region’s cold Pacific winds and fog. Shallow clay loam soils and the marine-influenced climate of nearby San Pablo Bay, foster expressions of classic cool-climate characteristics in this new addition to Provenance Vineyards’ highly specialized collection of wines.

For the inaugural 2016 vintage, the fruit was harvested into small bins at night and rushed to the winery for processing. After gentle whole cluster pressing, the wine was barrel fermented in small oak barrels to add layers of flavor and texture complexity. Then the Chardonnay was aged for 12 months sur lie in French oak barrels (35% new) to enhance the silky mouthfeel and integrate a subtle creamy nuance from the 100% malolactic fermentation process.

The Provenance 2016 Carneros Chardonnay offers the aromas of Meyer lemon, honeysuckle and jasmine, with the flavors of white peach and Anjou green pear, supported by a gentle framing of toasty spiced oak. Enhanced by aging on the lees, the wine’s texture is silky on the palate, and medium-bodied, harmonizing balance, persistence and a lengthy finish.

Provenance also currently produces estate and single vineyard expressions of Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec Rosé, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Fortitude, a limited release Cabernet Sauvignon showcase for Napa appellations.
