Proprietor Ray Signorello Jr. Vows to Move Forward; Launches New Cucina Experience on the Road

(Napa, Calif.) November 9, 2017—October 9th will be remembered as a dark day in the Napa Valley, as the historic Napa Atlas Peak Fire ravaged the area. It will especially be remembered at Signorello Estate, where fire engulfed proprietor Ray Signorello Jr.’s winery and home, which also housed the estate’s public spaces and administrative offices. Thankfully, the finished wines were stored off property, and the wines in barrel were spared.  The 2017 harvest was 95% complete, and those wines in tank have been evaluated, deemed of high quality and moved to barrel.

With his characteristic calm, Ray is navigating this difficult time and has already begun to interview architects who will help take Signorello Estate forward.

Another pillar of his commitment to restoring the winery and ensuring its future success is Ray’s launch of Signorello Estate’s new Cucina program which will bring the winery’s Estate Chef and Sommelier into the kitchens and homes of Signorello fans and wine enthusiasts.

History and The Signorello Family

When Ray Signorello Sr. purchased 100 acres of hillside land off the Silverado Trail in 1977, the San Francisco native turned Vancouver businessman was taken by the area’s raw beauty and the prospect of retiring there someday.

Instead, retirement turned into a new business venture as a grower selling to some of the biggest names in the Napa Valley. In 1985, encouraged by the caliber of the grapes, he partnered with his son, Ray Jr. (who was working in commercial real estate at the time in San Francisco) to co-found Signorello Estate. Together, they established Signorello Estate as a leading producer of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. After Ray Sr.’s passing in 1998, Ray Jr. continued to improve upon the small-batch excellence that Signorello Estate is now famous for.

The Wines

At Signorello Estate, classic French winemaking methods are applied to Napa Valley fruit, resulting in lush, concentrated, complex flavors and balanced structures. Winemaker Pierre Birebent, who hails from six generations of Corsican winemakers, has been a guiding force at Signorello Estate for 20 years. In that time, he’s developed an old-world style that favors terroir and limited production to create wines that pair with, not overpower, food. Signorello Estate’s 100% estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay.
