Healdsburg, CA (March 9, 2017) —Williams Selyem Winery Proprietor John Dyson is pleased to announce that Jeff Mangahas has been promoted to Director of Winemaking. Jeff joined the Williams Selyem team as the winemaker in 2011 and has diligently worked side-by-side with the growers and the winemaking team to consistently produce world-class wines. This title change best reflects Jeff’s direct involvement and commitment to making the best wines from the best grapes, from the best growers. “Jeff exemplifies the passion and dedication it takes for a winemaker to make truly world-class wines. He has been an amazing leader for the winemaking team and is consistently raising the quality of our wines with each vintage,” said John Dyson.

Williams Selyem has also promoted Jessica Gilbert to Controller, Will Thompson to Associate Cellarmaster and Mark G.W. Lussier to Cellar Worker.

About Jeff Mangahas

Jeff’s inquisitive mind and thoughtful approach to winemaking are just two of the many reasons he’s the ideal leader to shepherd the Williams Selyem wine program into the future. As a young man, he was consumed with why wines taste the way they do. This desire was more than a passing curiosity, and eventually caused him to leave his career as a medical research scientist to enroll in the Winemaking program and the University of California at Davis. After obtaining his Masters of Science in Enology, Jeff delved into his first harvest at Artesa Vineyards. Soon after, he was appointed Assistant Winemaker at Dutton-Goldfield. From there, he assumed the role of Winemaker at Hartford Family Winery. As Winemaker at Williams Selyem, Jeff’s curiosity pushes him to seek ways to coax the ultimate expression out of each vintage. Precision is key to his process, and it’s a mindset that not only comes naturally to Jeff, but one that he has continually perfected through persistent study, meticulous attention to detail and enthusiastic pursuit of excellence.

About Williams Selyem

Williams Selyem Winery was founded in 1979 by winemaking hobbyists Ed Selyem and Burt Williams in a garage in Forestville, California. In less than two decades, the winery achieved cult-status and garnered international acclaim for their Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and Zinfandels. Today, John and Kathe Dyson, who purchased the winery in 1998, carry on the passion for winemaking without compromise. While nearly all of Williams Selyem’s wines are sold through the winery’s direct consumer mailing list, a limited number of cases are released each year to a select group of the country’s finest restaurants.
