Napa Valley GrapegrowersNAPA, CA (October 6, 2016) – On October 12, 2016 the Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG) will host the 2016 Napa Valley Harvest Press Conference featuring moderator Sara Schneider, Wine Editor of Sunset Magazine, and a panel of industry experts:

  • Michael Silacci – Winemaker, Opus One & NVG Director
  • Caleb Mosley – Senior Viticulturist, Michael Wolf Vineyard Services Inc. & NVG Member Services Committee Co-Chair
  • Brittany Pederson – Viticulturist, Silverado Farming Company & NVG Marketing & Communications Committee Member

Timed to coincide with the final weeks of harvest, this highly-anticipated conference attracts viewers from around the world to provide timely information about the 2016 Napa Valley growing season and the most important topics in the vineyard today:

  • Vintage Predictions
  • Water Use & Conservation
  • Climate Change
  • Labor Retention & Development
  • Technology & New Viticultural Practices

While light rains earlier this week offered the vines and vineyard workers a brief rest, harvest 2016 is still underway.  Caleb Mosley, Senior Viticulturist with Michael Wolf Vineyard Services Inc., reported, “At this point in the season, we have picked approximately 75% of the tonnage we are expecting to harvest this year and most of what is left out is on the vine are the thick skinned varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. We have not seen any dilution in sugars at this point, and in many situations the flavors in the grapes I’ve tasted post-rain have been fresher and more vibrant than they were late last week. The skins of the individual berries are continuing to soften allowing for easier and more complete extraction of color, flavor, and tannin once the grapes make it into the fermenter. There is a general sense that it is time to wrap things up for harvest, but this rain has done little to damper the sentiment that we are in the midst of an excellent vintage.”
