The guide helps visitors discover the people, wines and unique local culture that make Oregon’s wine regions special
PORTLAND, May 16, 2016 — For the first time ever, visitors to Oregon wine country will have a dedicated, comprehensive resource to help inspire and plan trips to visit wineries throughout the state. The newly published Oregon Wine Official Touring Guide is a magazine featuring beautiful photography, intriguing articles, useful local knowledge and maps of all of the state’s wine touring regions.
The guide and its digital expression shine a spotlight on each of Oregon’s major wine regions, including the people, events, food and, of course, the wines that make each region distinct and worth the trip. More than 450 listings show where locals and visitors alike can taste Oregon wines, all of which make planning a trip to Oregon wine country easier than ever before.
“We are so excited to provide our industry with a high-end guide that inspires prospective travelers to choose Oregon as their premier wine destination,” said Michelle Kaufmann, communications manager at the Oregon Wine Board. “The distinct virtues of the diverse wine tourism regions throughout the state are highlighted throughout the guide, creating a wine country experience for everyone.”
With more than 18 wine growing regions and 72 different varieties of grapes, Oregon offers a wine experience for everyone. In the marine-influenced Willamette Valley, cool-climate grapes such as Pinot noir, Pinot gris, Riesling and Chardonnay have each garnered a global reputation for single varietal character. In the warm, high-elevation vineyards of Southern Oregon and the Walla Walla Valley, warm-climate varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Syrah and Viognier are crafted into head-turning wines earning top scores from national critics. And in the Columbia Gorge, varied microclimates allow winemakers and growers the luxury of working with the widest range of grape varieties of anywhere in the state.
The guide provides in-depth information on each of these four major winegrowing regions. Readers will also find ideas for day trips to the Oregon coast and central Oregon, must-visit restaurants, must-see attractions and other things to do in wine country, all of which culminate in an unlimited number of unique opportunities to enjoy the diversity of Oregon wine country visit after visit.
Produced in conjunction with SagaCity Media, the Oregon Wine Official Touring Guide was made possible by the Oregon Wine Country License Plate Matching Grant Program through Travel Oregon. Funds for this grant are derived by the robust sales of the Oregon Wine Country License Plate that was enabled by 2011 legislation and are dedicated to support Oregon wine and culinary tourism initiatives. The guide could not have been done without the partnership of Oregon’s regional wine associations. Input from these groups was vital to ensuring local content, insider tips and featured stories represent the essence of their respective regions.
