The Iconic and Collaborative Label Debuts its 2012 Collection of Wines with a Multi-Course Winemaker Dinner at Dogpatch WineWorks in SF

Coro MendocinoMENDOCINO COUNTY, CA – (May 13, 2015) Coro Mendocino (www.CoroMendocino.com), a collection of ultra-premium wines produced to showcase the rich heritage and unique characteristics of Mendocino County, will debut its 2012 vintage at their 12th Annual Release Party on Friday, June 19, 2015. This year, Coro Mendocino is excited to announce that it has moved the annual event’s location from Mendocino County to San Francisco, with the event this year taking place at Dogpatch WineWorks in the DogPatch District of San Francisco. The Coro Mendocino winemakers and local food personality Liam Mayclem of KCBS’ Foodie Chap and KPIX 5 TV’s Eye on The Bay will host the event, and Executive Chef Bruce Riezenman will be preparing an elegant multi-course dinner designed to showcase the 2012 vintage.

“We are beyond excited to grow this annual event by hosting our first-ever Release Party in San Francisco,” states Hoss Milone, Marketing Manager for Coro Mendocino and Winemaker at Brutocao Cellars. “While Mendocino has been a wonderful location for our Release Dinner for the past 11 years, in 2015 we are looking forward to sharing the Coro story with a larger audience, outside the borders of our beloved Mendocino County.”

The 2012 vintage marks the 12th release for Coro Mendocino, and includes wines from eight diverse Mendocino County vintners. The christened label and blend known as “Coro” — named and inspired from the Latin root for “chorus” (from many into one) — is the first appellation-controlled blend in the United States.

Every Coro wine is a signature blend, individually handcrafted in Mendocino County from 100 percent Mendocino County grapes, in strict accordance with the production protocols and bylaws set forth by Consortium Mendocino. Zinfandel, the county’s heritage varietal, must make up no more than 70 percent and no less than 40 percent of the wine. Nine other types of grapes may be included, typically Rhone or Italian varietals.*

All Coro Mendocino wines are aged a minimum of one year in the barrel and one in the bottle before the world is permitted to taste them. Even then, no one can sip until the winemakers in the Consortium have blind-tasted every wine and determined that the wine is worthy of the Coro label.

2015 marks the 12th vintage of the Coro Mendocino label, established in 2000 by a collection of liked-minded Mendocino County winemakers. Over the past fifteen years, twenty-one wineries have participated in the Coro consortium. The reviews for previous years have been effusive, calling the wines “smooth, lush, intense,” “sophisticated & fun,” and “rich, long and stylish.”

Of course, no two Coro wines are ever exactly alike. Oenophiles will have the opportunity to be the first to taste the 2012 vintage at the official Coro Release Party on June 19, at Dogpatch WineWorks in San Francisco. Each vintner will pour selections of their white, red and sparkling wines during the welcome reception (beginning at 6 p.m.) while guests nosh on bites and nibbles created by Park Avenue Catering. Following the opening reception, guests will be seated and enjoy a gourmet, four-course meal highlighting local Mendocino products prepared by celebrated owner and Executive Chef at Park Avenue Catering, Bruce Riezenman. Each course will be paired with multiples wines from the 2012 vintage (full menu with pairings listed below). Every table will host a different winemaker or a winery representative from a Coro winery to answer any questions guests might have about Coro and the wines being poured. The evening will conclude with a selection of beautifully handmade desserts and treats, including a Coro sorbet, paired with ports and dessert wines from the participating Coro wineries.

Wineries participating in Coro Mendocino’s 2012 Annual Release Party include: Barra of Mendocino, Brutocao Cellars, Clos du Bois, Golden Vineyards, McFadden Vineyard, Parducci Wine Cellars, Ray’s Station and Testa Vineyards. As a parting gift, each couple will receive a complete collection of the eight 2012 Coro wines produced by these labels to take home and enjoy (a value of $320).

Cost PER COUPLE to attend the Release Party is $700, and includes the complete collection of 2012 Coro wines (a $350 value).

“The Coro wines have evolved over the last 12 years as full-bodied, fruit-forward products that stand out as complex and different from standard varietal bottlings,” said Dennis Patton, a founding Coro winemaker. “In moving the dinner to San Francisco, we hope to introduce Coro wines to individuals who are not familiar with the brand, and have them fall in love with our story and wines, just as our loyal and long-time fan base has.”

About Coro Mendocino

Established in 2000, Coro is the only American example of winemakers coming together to set standards for a class of wines to represent a particular wine region. That region is Mendocino County, a diverse area that encompasses a variety of climates and soils, and boasts a mixture of multi-generational winemakers with deep Italian roots alongside newcomers with extensive and varied backgrounds. Coro means chorus in Italian and it represents the crafting of the Mendocino terroir into wines that “sing” on the palate.

Every Coro wine is a signature blend, individually crafted in Mendocino County from 100 percent Mendocino County grapes, in strict accordance with the Coro Mendocino bylaws. Each Coro wine must lead with between 40-70 percent Zinfandel and may be blended with up to nine named varietals, honoring the “Old Italian” field blends of Mendocino. Every bottle is held to strict protocols, and must be aged at least one year in the barrel and one year in the bottle, followed by blind-tasting by the winemakers before it can be deemed a Coro wine.
