Rioja, Spain — Monday, April 1, 2014 – CVNE (pronounced Coo-nay), a leading producer of Spanish wines from Rioja, recently purchased the Mikuni Wine Co. of Tokyo, to become the distributor in the Japanese market of a prestigious portfolio of premium fine wines from the greatest wine-growing regions of the world.

Victor Urrutia, Chief Executive Officer of CVNE and the 5th generation of CVNE’s founding family stated:

Mikuni Wine is one of Japan’s visionary leaders in premium wine distribution.  We support its current management and are committed to maintaining Mikuni Wine’s organization and relationships with its clients, suppliers, and employees.”

“Firstly, it is our mission to produce extraordinary wines.  We believe our ‘Imperial’ Gran Reserva is an example of this search for excellence.  Secondly, our objective is to distribute wines from the world’s best wine regions, internationally.  In Japan, interest in the Mediterranean diet, including Spanish cuisine is constantly growing and premium wines are highly valued.  We are excited to share and contribute towards this momentum.”

About CVNE
CVNE (pronounced Coo-nay) also known as Compañia Vinicola del Norte de España – was founded in 1879 by brothers Eusebio and Raimundo Real de Asúa in Haro, Rioja and is still family-owned and family-operated by direct descendants of the founders, Victor and Maria Urrutia.  CVNE’s philosophy has always been, and continues to be grounded in an ongoing quest for achieving excellence in the ageing of wine, and modernizing the processes for producing and crafting its wines.  The CVNE Portfolio includes three wineries that symbolize the three essential principles that have always characterized CVNE’s philosophy:  the respect of heritage evident at the historic Cune Winery where the highly-acclaimed Imperial wines are produced; the embrace of new technology and innovation at the James Bond-inspired Viña Real Winery; and the expression of terroir embodied at the Contino Winery, the first single estate winery in Rioja.
