New Look Honors Napa Winery’s Heritage While Embracing the Future
(Napa, Calif.)— January 14, 2020—Founded in 1968, family-owned Trefethen Family Vineyards announces the launch of a fresh new look for its portfolio of wines with a modern take on the winery’s original label.
“The foundation for the design of the new label included two cherished design elements from our very first bottles,” said Lorenzo Trefethen, who, along with his sister Hailey, spearheaded the redesign. “We reached back into our past, to our original logo, designed by the calligrapher Sumner Stone and our mother Janet. We also included the Trefethen flower, an emblem of our family and a representation of the estate which has graced the capsules of every bottle of Trefethen wine. We brought these beloved brandmarksfully into the present, wrapping them in a modern design that speaks to our future, faithfully reflecting both who we are and the wines we make.”
The elegant off-white label wraps ¾ of the way around the bottle and integrates distinctive design elements such as the Sumner Stone logo chiseled over part of a large yet subtle blind deboss of the Trefethen flower. Underneath, the unique right-alignment of vintage, varietal, and appellation characteristic of Trefethen labels fills in the space created by the curvature of the flower. The first wine to feature the new label is the 2018 Chardonnay, in a vibrant green bottle reflecting the bright style of Chardonnay that Trefethen is known for. The rest of the portfolio will follow suit throughout 2020. A new website, reflecting the new look and feel will also launch later this spring.
An external reflection of the internal evolution that has taken place at Trefethen over the past half century, the new packaging manages to anchor Trefethen in its history while reaching forward to embrace a bright future. Says Lorenzo “I hope the combination will prove timeless.”
