Ancient Peaks Winery’s “AP by the Sea” Brings Paso Robles Wines to Cambria’s Moonstone Beach

Satellite Tasting Room Welcomes Guests
Inside Pelican Inn & Suites

September 3, 2026 (Cambria, CA) — Ancient Peaks Winery announces the opening of “AP by the Sea,” a satellite tasting room in coastal Cambria that brings the winery’s acclaimed estate-grown wines to the shores of Moonstone Beach.

Located within the Pelican Inn & Suites on Moonstone Drive in northern San Luis Obispo County, AP by the Sea offers a range of selections from the winery’s estate Margarita Vineyard, including limited-production Pearl Collection wines that reflect the singular character of the Santa Margarita Ranch AVA in Paso Robles.

While the winery continues to operate its original Ancient Peaks Tasting Room & Café in the historic town of Santa Margarita, the satellite tasting room creates an additional destination for travelers exploring scenic Highway 1, Hearst Castle and the San Luis Obispo County coastline—all of which are gateways to the Paso Robles wine country.

“AP by the Sea is where you can experience the flavors of Paso Robles while enjoying one of California’s hidden gem coastal destinations,” said Doug Filipponi, viticulturist and co-owner of Ancient Peaks Winery. “We are excited to expand Ancient Peaks and bring our passion for early California rancho hospitality to this special location just steps from the Pacific Ocean.”

Guests at the Pelican Inn & Suites enjoy complimentary tastings for two at AP by the Sea. Tasting flights are also complimentary for wine club members and are otherwise just $20 per person. The tasting room is open Thursday through Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and walk-ins are welcome.

Ancient Peaks is a family winery that produces farm-to-glass, earth-friendly wines from Margarita Vineyard, the southernmost vineyard in the Paso Robles region. Here, just 14 miles from the ocean, the marine-cooled climate produces wines of exceptional quality, varietal expression and sense of place. Margarita Vineyard is SIP (Sustainability in Practice) certified, and both the vineyard and winery are solar powered.

“AP by the Sea will introduce more people to the story of Ancient Peaks and the historic Santa Margarita Ranch,” said co-owner Karl Wittstrom. “We know that guests will enjoy experiencing our wines in this unique coastal setting.”

About Ancient Peaks
Ancient Peaks is a family-owned winery specializing in wines from our sustainably farmed estate Margarita Vineyard in Paso Robles on California’s Central Coast. Margarita Vineyard stands alone in the Santa Margarita Ranch AVA of Paso Robles, nestled into the rugged Santa Lucia Mountain Range just 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The name Ancient Peaks honors the tall peaks surrounding Margarita Vineyard, which were forged by the collision of the coastal plates. Over time, these same geologic forces blessed us with five distinct soil zones—ancient sea bed, rocky alluvium, shale, volcanic and granitic—that bring natural complexity to our wines. Our Ancient Peaks Tasting Room & Café is located in Santa Margarita, and our satellite AP by the Sea tasting room is located along Moonstone Beach in Cambria.
