Gamling & McDuck Introduces In-Tasting-Room Video Store Amid Challenging Wine Market Conditions.

New programming expands hospitality model and diversifies revenue streams amid shifting direct-to-consumer landscape.

April 1, 2026 (Napa, CA) — Gamling & McDuck today announced the integration of a VHS video rental program within its downtown Napa tasting room, marking an expansion of the company’s approach to on-premise guest engagement and ancillary revenue development.

In response to the ongoing reporting on the wine industry’s decline by the wine industry, Gamling & McDuck has elected to diversify its offerings with VHS. “We’re betting on superannuated technology and antiquated library rituals to attract the youth market,” said owner and winemaker Adam McClary. “Everything old is new again.” He later expanded on the idea at some length, referencing topics as varied as surfing, cultural recursion, and his fervently expressed opinion that Roger Moore was the best Bond.

Wine club sign-ups were less robust in 2025, but Gamling & McDuck is excited about the potential of new revenue streams, including late fees and rewind fees. The company also emphasized the importance of strengthening its Wine Club to compete with subscription models now permeating every business from AI to maple syrup. Club members will receive exclusive access to the VHS library, including complimentary rentals and priority access to “Not New Releases.”

Beginning Friday, April 3rd, they will host an ongoing series titled Friday Night Videos, featuring multiple 13-inch TV/VCR combos placed throughout the tasting room, showcasing weekly themed selections of curated VHS bangers. The program will run each Friday from 5:30pm until the final film concludes. There will be specials on carafes of Gamling & McDuck’s flagship varietals Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc alongside popcorn service, because movies.

As a final thought, the company noted that a format like VHS may be a legacy technology but it is imbued with a warmth that will always be visible to searchers of the analog rhythm, to frequency heads seeking out the vibrations of the human record. It said that it survives today, even gets earmarked as trendy, because of its connection to its own experience and its disinterest in reinvention or relevance. With their video store concept Gamling & McDuck hopes to connect these VHS qualities to wine.
