Victory for Copenhagen, Sønderborg and the Faroe Islands in Star Wine List of the Year Denmark 2025

November 25, 2025 (Stockholm, Sweden) — In the sixth edition of Star Wine List of the Year Denmark, Gold Stars have been presented to restaurants and wine bars from the capital, Copenhagen, along with Sønderborg’s Visselulles Vinbar and competition newcomer, Ræst, in the Faroe Islands – the first Gold Star on the archipelago.

On Monday 24th November 2025, Star Wine List revealed the best wine lists in Denmark at an awards ceremony held at Restaurant Babylon, in Copenhagen. The Danish capital did extraordinarily well in the competition, taking 10 out of the 12 Gold Stars of the event. Those certificates were presented across 11 categories, with joint winners announced in the Sustainability Prize (Copenhagen’s Baest and Restaurant Ark).

“It is extremely stimulating to feel a community effort to emulate one another, and to really be at the avant-garde of our industry, while still paying tribute to heritage,” said judge Pascaline Lepeltier. “In a context where the wine economy is said to be collapsing, Copenhagen’s wine pros are giving us hope – and the energy – to strengthen our community.”

Three-Michelin-starred Geranium, in Copenhagen, earned two Gold Stars (for Best Long List and Best Austrian Wine List). As a dominant presence at this and many previous years’ events, the team is sure to do well at this season’s International Final, which will be held in June 2026. Another name to watch at the International Final will be “gastro pub” Grimal, which earned the Best Short List award for the third year in a row; the team was handed the global Gold Star in this category in 2025.

There was also a double win for Baest, which received Gold Stars for its sustainability credentials and selection of Italian wines. And another titan of Copenhagen’s restaurant scene, the two-Michelin-starred Alchemist, took the Gold Star for the Best California Wine List.

In a Star Wine List first, there was a Gold Star for the Faroe Islands, with fermentation specialists Ræst taking the prize for the Best Medium-Sized List. The restaurant is located in Tórshavn, on the island of Streymoy.

The jury panel for Star Wine List of the Year Denmark 2025 comprised four top sommeliers:

  • Stephen Wong – Master of Wine
  • Kathrine Larsen-Robert – Master Sommelier; Head of Wine (Europe), 67 Pall Mall
  • Stefan Neumann – Master Sommelier
