(Greenfield, CA) June 12, 2023 Approved as an American Viticultural Area in 1983, the Arroyo Seco appellation is rooted in the geographic features of a waterway named “Arroyo Seco”. Now consisting of 18,240 acres of premium vineyards, the Arroyo Seco was one of the first California viticulture regions to be planted to Chardonnay. Today, the Arroyo Seco is one of the largest planted regions for Chardonnay grapes in the United States and has also bult a reputation for award winning Sauvignon Blanc

“As one of the early pioneering AVA’s in California, the Arroyo Seco AVA was the 15th AVA to be granted such a distinction. Today there are now over 100 California AVA’s. The Arroyo Seco is blessed with winegrowers, vintners, and landowners who had the vision and knowledge to carve out the AVA using science, geology, hydrology, and microclimate data. Today, we have a great blend of large wineries, many of which have been here for 40 years or longer, along with newer artisan wineries. This area continuing to attract wineries proves that the original pioneers picked the right spot, and I believe this will continue in the future. I’m convinced we will see Chardonnay continue to be one of our showcase varietals, and as Pinot Noir from our region keeps receiving accolades, it will see more press time and earn additional notoriety. Another rising star of the Arroyo Seco, the Musqué clone of Sauvignon Blanc, continues to gain in popularity and receives many commendations,” stated Michael Griva President of the Arroyo Seco Winegrowers Association and owner of F & G Vineyards, LLC

On Saturday, August 12th, the Arroyo Seco Winegrowers Association will officially celebrate the AVA’s 40th Anniversary. Four decades of attentive agriculture and innovative winemaking will be showcased at this milestone event.  The members of the Arroyo Seco Winegrowers Association, along with local wine and agriculture industry, dignitaries and consumers will gather to share stories and toast this legendary AVA at Joyce Wine Company (38740 Los Coches Road, Soledad). Festivities will occur from 12pm – 4pm. Ticket info
