(September 30, 2022; Napa, Calif.) — Dalla Terra Winery Direct® is pleased to announce that celebrated Veneto-based Distilleria dell’Alpe has joined the company’s portfolio of family-owned estates, further growing the company’s specialty Italian spirits division. Dalla Terra is pleased to bring three of Distilleria dell’Alpe’s products to the US:  Amaro del Cansiglio ($30), Liquore Kapriol ($30) and Rosen Bitter ($32), with 5,000 bottles initially imported exclusively by Dalla Terra. This is the first time Distilleria dell’Alpe’s selections have been offered at a significant scale in the United States.

“We are excited and honored to introduce to the US market, Distilleria dell’Alpe, a brand that is steeped in the traditions and artisanal ethos of Italian distilling,” says President of Dalla Terra Scott Ades. “Since launching our spirits division with Piedmont-based Elena Penna Spirits in 2020, we have searched for producers who align with our core values and offer a product that represents the quality and legacy of spirits from Italy. With Distilleria dell’Alpe, we have found the perfect next addition to our spirits portfolio.”

The dell’Alpe story began in 1948 when Fernuccio di Bernard established Distilleria dell’Alpe in Bastia d’Alpago, a small hillside village in the sweeping Cansiglio forest of the Eastern Italian Alps.  One of the first artisanal producers of Italian gin, Fernuccio deeply understood the traditional nature of spirits, but he also was an innovator and craftsman. Among the many products he created, he patented an enigmatic juniper-based liqueur, Kapriol, commonly known as a Distillato del Bosco or a “distillate of the forest.” Authentic, delicious, and undeniably unique, Kapriol became an iconic spirit for the region.

In 2002 the Maschio family, historical Prosecco and Grappa producers from the nearby town of Conegliano, purchased Distilleria dell’Alpe with the intention of developing a variety of liqueurs and traditional spirits of the area. They quickly revived the original Kapriol Classico liqueur from 1948 as well as another of de Bernard’s signature recipes, the remarkable Rosen Bitter, an aperitivo originally created in 1951.  Rosen Bitter, known originally as rosa alpina, was made through a distillation and infusion of a dozen typical alpine herbs and plants like alpine rose and bay leaf.

Today, master distiller Alessandro Maschio uses the pot stills from the original distillery to carry out the very recipes and techniques that have been used for three quarters of a century at Distilleria dell’Alpe.  Alessandro’s son, Francesco—the 3rd generation—is currently in charge of operations.  Together the family guides this historical producer of some of Italy’s most iconic spirits in continuing production showcasing local ingredients with strong ties to tradition, while also engaging with new products and recipes that will take the family business into the next era.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to bring these specialized products to restaurants and retailers throughout the US,” adds Ades.
