Lompoc, CA (May 23, 2019) – Flying Goat is hosting an artist reception for Sarah Allred on Saturday, June 22, from 3-5pm at the Tasting Room in the Lompoc Wine Ghetto. All are invited to come by, meet the artist and enjoy her paintings over wine and cheese.
Sarah Allred is a Lompoc based, self-taught visual artist. She began working with watercolors in 2015. Over the last few years, she’s expanded her media to include acrylic paints, linoleum block printing, inks, journal making, chalk, sharpies, and whatever else she can get her hands on. Her works have been displayed at The Lompoc Wine Factory, South Side Coffee Company, Lompoc’s First Thursday Art Nights, and she participated in Lompoc’s first annual Chalk Arts Festival in 2018.
The artwork displayed at the tasting room is a reflection of Allred’s love of the plant world. A long-time gardener and amateur botanist, plants are often the focus of Sarah’s work. This gallery ranges from large and loose fantasy garden scenes in vibrant acrylic paint and mixed media on canvas to softly ordered and delicately rendered watercolor botanical studies. These paintings are a meditation on wildness and structure, and the magic and tenacity of life, both plant and human.
When she’s not painting, Allred can be found teaching yoga at a local studio, tending her garden, and reading as much fantasy fiction as she can. She also works in the local wine industry so she has a special connection with Flying Goat.
