Joe Dobbes Recognizes 30 Years of Winemaking
Dundee, Oregon, April 7, 2016 – Joe Dobbes celebrates 30 years of winemaking with the release of his 2013 Quailhurst Vineyard Pinot Noir. Long acclaimed for his creativity and craftsmanship of Oregon Pinot Noir, Dobbes continues to develop unique and distinguished single vineyard Pinot Noirs as well as his signature Grand Assemblage Pinot Noir blend. Other single vineyard Pinot Noirs recently released are the 2011 Meyer Vineyard (Dundee Hills AVA), 2011 Symonette Vineyard (Eola-Amity Hills AVA) and the 2012 Momtazi Vineyard (McMinnville AVA).
For three decades, Joe Dobbes has been making significant contributions to the evolution of the Oregon wine industry and the diversity and quality of Oregon wines. A pioneer of vineyards in Southern Oregon as well as the renowned Willamette Valley, he has been recognized for his commitment to telling Oregon’s story through the unique character and attributes of its land, its vines and the farmers who farm them. “Today I make 15 wines for Dobbes Family Estate,” Joe Dobbes recounts.” Eight of them are single vineyard wines, four of which are single vineyard Pinot Noirs, and each one clearly expresses its unique site. Quailhurst is an example of what I believe is an outstanding site with complex fruit that is a perfect representation of the Chehalem Mountains AVA.”
“Joe’s been telling the Oregon story through a very personal lens for a long time,” commented Gretchen Boock, COO of Dobbes Family Estate and Wine by Joe. ”Like a true Oregonian, he does not like to follow the crowd and he wants to explore and innovate. Our Quailhurst Pinot Noir was Joe’s first single vineyard Pinot and the wine continues to represent his passion and his personality.”
Quailhurst Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013
Opulent strawberry, dried cherry and fresh red currant aromas are matched with complex spicy oak characters of vanilla and graham cracker along with subtle cardamom, star anise and floral rosehips. The palate, like the aroma, has diverse fruit characters of red plum, strawberry preserves, cranberry and raspberry. Oak flavors of vanilla pipe tobacco and cedar play well with notes of sweet dried herbs. A full bodied entry is framed with structured tannins that carry through a long, bright acid finish. Within a warm, early drinking vintage this wine has the intensity and structure for continued bottle aging; enjoy now through 2017.
