San Francisco Wine Group Raises Over $20,000
San Francisco, Calif., November 30, 2017–The Golden Gate Wine Society made a call to action around California’s wine country fires and rallied its members to raise funds for fire relief efforts. The San Francisco based group of wine aficionados and wine professionals raised over $20,000 from its 100 active members, to split between the Napa Valley Community Foundation and Sonoma County Grape Growers Foundation.
Founded in 1973 by four men who frequently enjoyed lunch and wine together in San Francisco, the Golden Gate Wine Society was born as an informal group of men and women whose common interest was wine and winemakers from small California wineries. As the society evolved, it began to invite local winemakers to speak and share their wines, a practice which continues today at monthly member events in San Francisco. The Golden Gate Wine Society has hosted speakers from Andre Tschelistcheff and Robert Mondavi to Ray Signorello, Merry Edwards and Cathy Corison.
“Our mission is to further our education in the making and enjoyment of wine,” said Golden Gate Wine Society 2017 President Bob Anderson. “These fires were so devastating to our local wine community and touched so many of our own members–it is important to support the wine industry that has given our group so much knowledge and joy over the years. We are proud that our members stepped up to contribute in such a generous way.”
Donated funds will support the Napa Valley Community Disaster Relief Fund and the Housing Support Fund for Ag Workers in Sonoma County through their respective foundations.
