Double Recognition in the Vini d’Italia 2027 Guide: Picolit Collio DOC 2020 Receives the Special Award “Meditation Wine of the Year” and the Prestigious Tre Bicchieri

October 26, 2026 (Capriva del Friuli, Italy) — A result that celebrates one of the most authentic and prestigious expressions of Friuli’s winemaking tradition. Pighin’s Picolit Collio DOC 2020 has been awarded the Special Prize “Meditation Wine of the Year” in the Gambero Rosso Vini d’Italia 2027 Guide, while also earning the prestigious Tre Bicchieri, the highest recognition granted by Italy’s leading wine guide.
“Receiving such an important award for our Picolit is a great source of pride, as it recognizes the value of work that requires time, patience and great attention at every stage of production,” comments Roberto Pighin. “Picolit is a unique wine, deeply connected to our territory and its history. This recognition rewards our commitment to preserving its identity and interpreting it with respect, striving every year to express the characteristics that make this wine truly extraordinary.”
A flagship grape variety of Friuli Venezia Giulia and one of the rarest and most precious varieties in the Italian wine landscape, Picolit finds the ideal environment in the hills of the Collio to fully express its elegance. Pighin’s Picolit Collio DOC 2020 is the result of a meticulous production process that begins with the late manual harvest of the grapes and continues with a natural air-drying process lasting approximately one month, designed to concentrate aromas and sugars.
Gentle pressing produces a must with a high sugar concentration, followed by a carefully controlled fermentation that is halted once the desired balance is reached, thus preserving the wine’s characteristic residual sugar. The ageing process includes maturation in both barriques and small stainless-steel tanks, followed by the blending of the different components to achieve the organoleptic profile sought by the winery.
The result is a wine of extraordinary aromatic complexity, capable of combining intensity, depth and harmony, qualities that have enabled it to stand out among Italy’s finest labels and earn this double recognition from the expert tasters of Gambero Rosso.
This important achievement confirms the Pighin family’s commitment to promoting the great wines of Friuli and represents a new chapter in the winery’s history, which has always been dedicated to pursuing quality while respecting the distinctive characteristics of its vineyards and wines.
