October 26, 2026 — With TOPMIX 2.0 and TOP V, CREALIS PE.DI completes its range of oenological crown caps designed for sparkling wines. These two new solutions reflect a shared approach that consists in making the tirage capsule a genuine tool for winemakers, capable of influencing sealing consistency, the control of gas exchange and the evolution of the wine throughout its ageing process.
During the second fermentation in the bottle, the choice of crown cap and its liner plays a role in the conditions under which the wine continues to evolve. Oxygen and CO₂ permeability, pressure resistance and crimping consistency are among the key parameters considered by CREALIS PE.DI when developing its solutions.
Active in the sparkling wine, still wine and beer markets, CREALIS PE.DI draws on more than 40 years of expertise in the design and manufacture of crown caps and closure solutions. In the sparkling wine market, this expertise is underpinned in particular by an in-depth understanding of the traditional method and the gas exchanges that accompany the evolution of wines throughout the ageing process.
TOPMIX 2.0 AND TOP V: TWO NEW TOOLS FOR BOTTLING AND LEES AGEING
With TOPMIX 2.0 and TOP V, CREALIS PE.DI offers two complementary solutions to address the challenges faced by winemakers, from the implementation of the tirage process through to supporting cuvées throughout their lees ageing.
TOPMIX 2.0 builds on an existing solution with a capsule featuring a reduced height and a redesigned profile. This new design aims in particular to prevent obstructions on tirage lines and reduce the risk of deformation or damage during crimping. The geometry of its insert has also been engineered to preserve its integrity in the event of misalignment between the capsule and the bottle neck, while promoting an even distribution of the load. Its permeability profile, measured at 0.19 cm³ / 24 h for CO₂ and 0.0032 cm³ / 24 h for O₂, further enhances the technical specifications of this new generation of capsules.
TOP V, short for Top Vintage, has been specifically developed for cuvées intended for extended lees ageing. Its low permeability, measured at 0.13 cm³ / 24 h for CO₂ and 0.0016 cm³ / 24 h for O₂, helps preserve freshness and limit the wine’s evolution over time. Its thermoformed liner also combines performance, reliability and ease of crimping. The solution guarantees pressure resistance of up to 9 bars, with tests carried out up to 10 bars, and is designed to support very long ageing periods of up to 72 months or more.
CROWN CAP EXPERTISE IN THE SERVICE OF WINE
TOPMIX 2.0 and TOP V build on CREALIS PE.DI’s expertise in treating the capsule as a fully-fledged oenological tool. By working on materials, liners and their different levels of permeability, PE.DI provides winemakers with a range of solutions designed to support the evolution of wines according to their characteristics and ageing periods. The range therefore offers different oxygen and CO₂ permeability profiles, with TOP V now joining the portfolio.
This approach also takes environmental considerations into account, as illustrated by TOP L. Its liner is made from cork treated with supercritical CO₂. Mechanically inserted without adhesive, it can be used with a conventional capping machine and a standard bottle. According to an impact assessment, TOP L reduces CO₂ emissions by 12.5%*. This solution illustrates how PE.DI is advancing oenological capsule technology by combining performance, technical precision and the pursuit of more sustainable solutions.
*The 12.5% reduction in carbon footprint is based on a comparison between a crown cap fitted with a polyethylene liner and a crown cap fitted with a cork liner. The environmental impacts of these two types of caps were determined through an independent life cycle assessment conducted in 2025 by Consilia Associati.
