October 26, 2026 (Barcelona, Spain) — Barcelona Wine Week, the leading trade fair for quality Spanish wines, will take place from 8 to 10 February 2027 at Fira de Barcelona, bringing together leading experts and professionals to discuss the main trends and challenges facing the sector. The event will feature prominent national and international figures, including Eric Asimov, wine critic for The New York Times.

Wines with ageing potential will be one of the main themes of the show. Sommeliers, winemakers, critics and other specialists will explore the value of wines that develop greater complexity over time, highlighting their longevity as a mark of quality and excellence.
The main tastings and talks will explore how wines evolve over time and what determines their ageing potential. Experts will examine the influence of origin, grape varieties, viticulture, winemaking techniques and storage conditions, as well as how wines develop in the bottle and how this shapes the aromas, texture and character of each vintage.
Among the international figures will be Eric Asimov, wine critic for The New York Times and one of the most respected voices in wine journalism. Recognised for his defense of wines that express the origin and uniqueness of each territory, Asimov will provide a global vision of the role of aging wines and their ability to differentiate.
Some of the confirmed participants are María José Huertas, head sommelier at Paco Roncero’s restaurant at Casino de Madrid; Dani Giganto, sommelier at MU.NA in Ponferrada; José Ribagorda, journalist and news presenter; Almudena Alberca, Spain’s only female Master of Wine; and winemakers Peter Sisseck (Dominio de Pingus) and María Vargas (Marqués de Murrieta). They will all take part in sessions aimed at wine industry professionals. Meanwhile, Ramón Francàs, journalist and wine critic for La Vanguardia, will host the tasting The 13 Magnificent Wines of Rioja, exploring some of the DOCa Rioja’s most emblematic wines and their ageing potential.
Big challenges
Alongside activities celebrating oenological excellence, BWW 2027 will address some of the key challenges facing the wine industry, including vineyard management amid production surpluses, changing consumption habits and strategies to strengthen the perceived value of wine among consumers.
“Barcelona Wine Week aims to support the sector in addressing challenges across the entire value chain, from the vineyard to marketing. We want to encourage the exchange of knowledge, anticipate new opportunities and help shape strategies that strengthen the competitiveness and value of Spanish wine,” says Céline Pérez, director of BWW.
Experts, winemakers, institutional managers and distribution professionals will discuss market transformations and the tools to respond to these changes and maintain their competitiveness in an increasingly complex environment.
In this context, the European Fire Wine project will also be presented. This technological innovation initiative aims to promote more resilient wine-growing landscapes and help prevent forest fires. Developed in Catalonia, the project includes the creation of a label to recognise wineries committed to improving the resilience of their forest estates. It has since expanded to other regions of Spain, France, Portugal and Italy.
Horeca and consumer trends
The next edition will introduce the Horeca Wine Forum, a new event dedicated to discussing the role of wine in the restaurant and hospitality sectors. Topics will include profitability, pricing strategies, wine by the glass, changing consumption occasions, and relationships between wineries, distributors and hospitality businesses. The programme will draw on a sector report based on existing studies and interviews with industry professionals. It will also feature a think tank bringing together ten industry representatives to identify strategies to boost wine sales and consumption outside the home.
As a prelude to Barcelona Wine Week, the fourth edition of Hotel Wine Fest will take place from 27 January to 10 February 2027. The initiative aims to bring Spanish wines closer to the public through gastronomic experiences at five-star hotels in Barcelona. For 15 days, participating hotels will offer tapas and tasting menus paired with wines from different Spanish wine regions. The event will feature the Best Pairing Award, decided by a professional jury, and the Audience Award for Best Experience.
BWW 2027 expects to bring together more than 1,300 exhibiting companies from 16 autonomous communities, representing over 90 designations of origin and other quality seals, across Halls 1 and 2 of Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc venue.
Since its launch, Barcelona Wine Week has received strong support from across the wine sector. Its organising committee includes key industry organisations such as the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV), the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), ICEX Spain Trade and Investment, the Spanish Conference of Wine Regulatory Councils (CECRV) and the Catalan Wine Association (AVC). The event is also supported by cooperative bank Cajamar.
