Pre-proposals for new projects due October 23, 2026.
September 16, 2026 (Seattle, WA) — The Washington State Wine Commission (WSWC) will begin accepting new viticulture and enology research proposals on September 18, 2026 for the coming year.

The research grant portal manages applications to the Washington State Wine Commission’s own grant program and the statewide Grape and Wine Research Program administered by Washington State University. The two competitive research grant programs offer a variety of grants, from one-year demonstration projects to up to four years of study.
The Washington Wine Commission’s grant program is designed to foster research collaboration with WSU and other wine regions to leverage research funding opportunities. The program offers one-year grants targeted at practical trials for rapid application to wineries and vineyards or proof-of-concept research ideas, and intermediate grants. Awards from the Washington Wine Commission’s program are available to Washington State University scientists, out-of-state university researchers, and private contractors.
The deadline for pre-proposal applications is October 23, 2026. Pre-proposals deemed by the industry review committee to have merit and relevance to the Washington wine industry will be invited to submit a full proposal due on January 29, 2027. Principal investigators of full research proposals will be asked to give a short presentation during the annual Research Review scheduled for February 24-25, 2027, in Prosser, WA.
