A limited edition—6,012 bottles—that reveals the freshest, most precise, and most authentic expression of the oldest documented grape variety in Rioja.

May 22, 2026 — Rioja Vega expands its commitment to reviving historic and lesser-known varieties with the launch of its new white wine made 100% from Maturana Blanca, a unique, indigenous, and rare variety that returns to reclaim its place in contemporary Rioja viticulture.
The project originates in the vineyard, at the ‘La Presa’ estate, where the loamy-clay soils and a climate with a marked continental influence allow for balanced ripening and a true expression of the variety. This origin defines a wine that moves away from conventional interpretations to adopt a more defined, vertical profile focused on varietal purity.
In the words of Rioja Vega’s winemaker, Esperanza Elías: “This Maturana Blanca represents a new expression of Rioja whites. It is a fresh, and elegant wine that aligns with current trends, yet retains strong historical roots and a distinct sense of place.”
In the glass, the wine is expressive, with a fresh bouquet dominated by primary notes and subtle complexity. On the palate, it stands out for its balance, well-integrated acidity, and a long finish that lends depth and gastronomic versatility. A white wine with structure, yet without losing its lightness, designed to evolve and gain complexity over time.
With this launch, Rioja Vega reinforces its commitment to reviving native grape varieties as a means to diversify and enrich the Rioja portfolio. In a market where consumers seek authenticity, origin, and limited production, Maturana Blanca positions itself as one of the most unique and promising offerings within the white wine category.
