Hawks Hill Ranch Releases First Wines Crafted by Winemaker Don Burns from Bud Break to Bottle

2023 Vintage Also Inaugurates Immersive New Look for Hawks Hill Ranch Wines

March 31, 2026 (Paso Robles, CA) — Hawks Hill Ranch winery today released its initial trio of estate-grown reds from the 2023 vintage in the Paso Robles Adelaida District, the first wines helmed from bud break to bottle by Consulting Winemaker Don Burns. These releases also introduce a striking new look for Hawks Hill Ranch wines, one that reflects the winery’s unique origin story under Owner & Vintner Kit Kuyper.

The first wines released from the 2023 vintage are the “Parity” Mourvèdre, “Limit Up” Cabernet-Syrah blend, and “Liquidity” Rhône-style blend, with additional releases to follow in the summer and fall.

“These releases represent a milestone moment for Hawks Hill Ranch on multiple fronts,” Kuyper said. “Don grabbed hold of the incredible 2023 growing season and took our wines to yet another level, which makes our new labels all the more timely and fitting.”

Hawks Hill Ranch specializes in estate-grown, co-fermented varietal wines and proprietary blends from its high-elevation terroir in the mountains of the Adelaida District. The vineyard reaches past 2,000 feet at its peak with elevation changes of 600 feet across the estate. The result is a rare array of nano-climates, allowing for a wide range of ripening timelines and co-fermentation possibilities.

Masterfully Crafted

Burns is the proprietor of his own acclaimed boutique winery, Turtle Rock Vineyards in Paso Robles. He is a native of Paso Robles who was also part of the collective winemaking team at Saxum Vineyards for 15 years.

Burns first began consulting with Hawks Hill Ranch in 2022, helping bring that vintage’s in-progress wines to fruition. He and Kuyper then spent the following growing season walking the estate vineyard, solidifying the winery’s core lineup, and refining the Hawks Hill Ranch style. The 2023 growing season in the Adelaida District also proved to be one of the finest in recent memory, with long, late fruit development that delivered remarkable physiological ripeness.

“The results speak for themselves,” Kuyper said. “I believe that Don’s mastery is on full display in our 2023 wines, and the expression of our estate terroir has never been more powerful or refined.”

A Bold New Look

The 2023 vintage label designs inaugurate a bold new look for the wines of Hawks Hill Ranch, one that expands upon Kuyper’s background in the financial arts.

The new labels bring each wine’s story to life. For example, the “Limit Up” blend—named for the highest price at which an asset can trade—now portrays the iconic edifice of the Chicago Board of Trade, where Kuyper spent many a hectic day. Designed by local artist Nicole Kirkpatrick, the new labels all share a common thread of contemporary expression and artful imagery.

“These new labels are a nod to our roots, but also a sign of where we’re headed,” Kuyper said.
