A new gathering place just off the Sonoma Plaza, opens October 22
October 22, 2026 (Sonoma, CA) — Patz & Hall opens its new Sonoma tasting room just off the Sonoma Plaza on October 22, marking more than a change of address. The new Patz & Hall Sonoma House reflects a broader reimagining of how the winery welcomes guests, creating a place where great wine and genuine hospitality come together.

“I got into this business because I love sharing wine with people,” said Patz & Hall Founding Winemaker James Hall. “This move gives us the chance to create a tasting room that feels a little more like the way people enjoy wine today. Whether someone joins us for a quick flight or settles in for an evening event around the table, we want every visit to feel welcoming, relaxed, and engaging.”
The move comes as the property that housed Patz & Hall’s longtime Sonoma House changed ownership, a natural turning point that the team embraced as an opportunity to rethink every part of the guest experience, from the setting itself to the way people discover the wines.
The new Sonoma House is set within a restored 1917 home just steps off the historic Sonoma Plaza on First Street East. Designed with a lived-in feel that complements the home’s Arts & Crafts character, the space is intimate and intentionally relaxed. It’s the kind of place that invites people to settle in over a glass of wine.
Interior designer Julie Hawkins of Hawkins Interiors, known for her acclaimed work throughout wine country tasting rooms, is shaping the aesthetic of the new space. Her work reflects the same restraint and attention to detail that have long defined Patz & Hall’s wines. The glassware (Gabriel Glas), linens (Wonderlinen), ceramics (Jono Pandolfi) and other partners were thoughtfully selected as well.
Guests can choose from a range of tasting experiences, from an introductory Sonoma House Flight to immersive vineyard-focused tastings, library wines, sparkling wine experiences, and intimate food pairings. Each was designed to offer a different way to experience the people, places, and wines that have defined Patz & Hall for nearly four decades.
“One of the things I love about the new location is what’s happening right outside the front door,” Hall continued. “People come into town for lunch, to shop, or to wander through the farmers’ market. Now we’re part of that. Someone can stop in for a glass of wine before dinner or spend an hour with us tasting through our Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. That’s exactly what we hoped this place would become.”
Beyond daily tastings, the winery will also introduce recurring gatherings, including Community Night, Vinyl & Vino, and Hall & Company (a quarterly dinner series featuring stand-out figures from the arts, crafts, humanities, and beyond), unique events designed to bring together wine, food, music, and conversation in new ways.
In 2024, Hall and partners reacquired Patz & Hall, returning the winery to independent ownership after eight years. For those who’ve followed the winery since the beginning, it felt less like a transaction and more like a homecoming.
With James back at the helm, Patz & Hall is focused on making Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that reflect the vineyards they come from and continuing the grower relationships that make those wines possible. The new Sonoma House brings that same focus to how the winery welcomes guests.

About Patz & Hall
Every Patz & Hall wine begins in a singular vineyard, each chosen for its character, its climate, and the people who farm it. For over three decades, the winery has worked with trusted growers to produce small-lot wines that reflect place with precision and restraint. In 2024, founding winemaker James Hall re-acquired the winery, returning it to independent ownership and renewing a commitment to the vision that started it all. www.PatzHall.com
