At the 2026 Chianti Classico Collection, Montefili Presents Two New Gran Selezione: Vinea Vecchia and Vinea Nel Bosco

March 5, 2026 (Panzano, Chianti) — On the occasion of the Chianti Classico Collection 2026, Vecchie Terre di Montefili presents two new interpretations of high-altitude Sangiovese to the trade press: Vinea Vecchia and Vinea Nel Bosco.

Two wines born from the same place, between 500 and 540 meters above sea level in Montefili, from different ages and agronomic sensibilities. Two parcels, two different times in the vineyard, two complementary expressions of the same philosophy: meticulous viticulture, silent precision, and absolute respect for the natural rhythm.

Altitude as identity

In Montefili, altitude isn’t a technical detail, but a defining characteristic. At over 500 meters above sea level, between the Panzano and Montefioralle UGAs, the Sangiovese ripens slowly, preserving tension, freshness, and aromatic depth.

Each parcel is vinified separately. Every decision, from pruning to manual harvesting to spontaneous fermentation, stems from direct observation of the vineyard. Production remains naturally limited: we produce only what the land allows, never more.

Vinea Vecchia: the memory of the vineyard

Vinea Vecchia, planted in 1981 on Alberese and shaly clay soils with marl, embodies the depth and expressive maturity of Montefili’s Sangiovese.

Vinified with spontaneous fermentation and aged for 26 months in 10hl barrels, it is a wine of structure and finesse, in which notes of rose, red cherry, and currant intertwine with subtle spices and earthy accents.

The production is 2,572 bottles and 46 magnums: an authentic, unconstructed rarity. Vinea Vecchia is a wine of depth and composure. It speaks with a calm yet persistent voice.

Vinea nel Bosco: contemporary energy and tension

Vinea Nel Bosco comes from a more recent vineyard, surrounded by dense forest at 540 meters on Alberese soil, where the Sangiovese expresses a more vibrant and vertical profile. The altitude and temperature ranges preserve the freshness and aromatic definition.

The result is a wine that combines precision and dynamism: clear fruit, elegant tannins, and a luminous finish.

If Vinea Vecchia is memory and roots, Vinea nel Bosco is momentum and perspective. With a production of 2,476 bottles and 90 magnums, all hand-numbered, a subtle dialogue between generations of the same land emerges.

A coherent vision

With these two new Gran Seleziones, Montefili reinforces an already clear trajectory: to produce wines that faithfully express place and time, without stylistic concessions.

The goal is not to expand, but to deepen. Not to multiply, but to distinguish. In a context like the Chianti Classico Collection, a key moment of comparison for the appellation, Montefili chooses to present two wines that speak of identity, not volume.

Two wines designed for those who recognise the value of moderation, precision, and authentic rarity.
