Star Chef Kathy Fang and Hoopes Vineyard Collaborate on Exclusive Tasting Experience Celebrating Cookbook and Culinary Legacy

October 3, 2025 (San Francisco, CA) —  Kathy Fang, chef and owner of Fang Restaurant and House of Nanking, cookbook author, and television personality, is delighted to announce a special collaboration with Hoopes Vineyard for a one-of-a-kind tasting experience in celebration of two family legacies rooted in storytelling, heritage, and craftsmanship and Kathy’s newly released cookbook, House of Nanking: Family Recipes from San Francisco’s Favorite Chinese Restaurant,” co-authored with her father and culinary trailblazer, Peter Fang.

On October 11, 2025, at COOP, Hoopes new creative gathering space in Napa Valley, will feature an exclusive wine tasting experience with shareable bites inspired by the cookbook from 11 am – 3 pm. The menu will feature items such as iconic Nanking Chicken Dumplings with House of Nanking’s signature peanut sauce and soy-pickled jalapeño; Fang’s charred broccoli in secret sauce; and Sichuan Mapo Tofu with hot Italian sausage, served over steamed jasmine rice with fried shallots and herbs – each bite reflecting the Fang family’s Shanghai-Cantonese roots and California’s fresh season ingredients. Chef Kathy Fang will engage with guests, answer questions about the cookbook, and offer personal insights into the stories and inspiration behind each dish. In addition to the food & wine pairing, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase a “Book + Tasting Bundle,” which includes a House of Nanking cookbook, select Hoopes wines, and recipe pairings to recreate the experience at home.

“As a chef who tells stories through food, it’s incredibly meaningful to partner with a winery that shares the same reverence for legacy, land, and cultural identity,” said Kathy Fang. “This event is about more than pairing dishes and wine – It’s about honoring where we come from and how we continue to grow.”

The Fang story began in San Francisco’s Chinatown when Peter Fang opened House of Nanking in 1988, redefining Chinese dining in the U.S. by honoring his Shanghai roots and showcasing California’s seasonal ingredients. Over the years, his bold dishes and warm hospitality created a cult following. His daughter, Kathy Fang, grew up in that kitchen and went on to chart her own path – becoming a two-time Chopped champion, Food Network Star, and co-founding Fang Restaurant with her father. Their new cookbook is a tribute to their culinary bond and the immigrant journey that brought their family story to life.

The Hoopes legacy mirrors a similar intergenerational journey. Spencer Hoopes, a quiet visionary with a love for farming, planted roots in Napa Valley in the early 1980s and built a reputation as one of Oakville’s most respected growers. His daughter, Lindsay Hoopes, stepped in during a family health crisis and ultimately transformed the vineyard into a regenerative estate known today as The Oasis by Hoopes. Combining her legal background and deep respect for the land, Lindsay reimagined the family business – introducing organic practices, diversifying their offerings, and becoming a passionate advocate for small wine producers in a changing Napa landscape.

This partnership between Chef Kathy Fang and Lindsay Hoopes is more than a culinary event – it’s a celebration of generational entrepreneurship, immigrant perseverance, and the power of women carrying forward their fathers’ visions in bold, future-facing ways.
