Annual Event Invites Public to Learn from Innovative Cancer Researchers
NAPA VALLEY, CA, JUNE 6, 2024 – The V Foundation for Cancer Research, a top-rated cancer charity, is proud to host the Krzyzewski Family Answer for Cancer Symposium on Saturday, August 3, an opportunity for guests to hear from the brightest minds in cancer research. The symposium, part of the 26th Annual V Foundation Wine Celebration, brings together all-star scientists funded by the V Foundation to share their groundbreaking studies, advancements in the cancer research field and how this work directly impacts patient lives.
Held at The Social at The Estate Yountville in Napa Valley, California, the two-hour event begins at 9:30am PT and is free to the public to attend in person or stream virtually through the V Foundation’s Facebook page. Sponsored by ESPN and Blackbaud and named in honor of longstanding V Foundation supporters Mickie and Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski, the symposium includes three innovative cancer research presentations, and offers attendees the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with the scientists.
Moderated by V Foundation Chief Scientific Officer Susanna Greer, Ph.D., the three V Foundation Grantee presenters include: Mariana Byndloss, DVM, Ph.D., of Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Peter Westcott, Ph.D., of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York, and Livia Schiavinato Eberlin, Ph.D., of Baylor College of Medicine. Each researcher is an expert in colorectal cancer, which is the 2024 Wine Celebration’s Fund-A-Need, a special call-to-action topic selected for additional funding each year.
While colorectal cancer deaths have been declining since 1985, more than 150,000 cases of colorectal cancer are diagnosed in the United States each year, with a significant increase in adults under 50. Colorectal cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death for men and second for women under the age of 50. To date, the V Foundation has awarded 39 grants totaling over $8.9 million in colon and rectal cancer research, but an urgent need exists to continue improving treatment and detection options for this disease.
The Krzyzewski Family Answer for Cancer Symposium is included as a part of the event schedule for the V Foundation Wine Celebration, a three-day signature event that raises funds for the V Foundation. For more information on the V Foundation Wine Celebration, please visit winecelebration.v.org.
