December 18 – Wine enthusiasts and aspiring sommeliers will soon get their chance to show everyone what they’ve got! On Jan. 2, entries open for the third annual Sommelier Showdown at Sail Away Wine. It’s your chance to be crowned Kansas City’s Sage of Wine 2024!
Anyone can enter this popular Big 12-like wine tournament from Jan. 2 through Jan. 28. Just stop by Sail Away Wine, the area’s only self-serve wine bar at 309 Armour Road in North Kansas City, MO and fill out an entry form.
The cost to enter the competition is $15, with all money raised from entries going directly to Hope House, a domestic violence shelter in Kansas City. Participants will do a blind taste test of one glass of wine and then they’ll have three minutes to fill out a questionnaire about the wine selection.
The contestant pool will start with 32 competitors and continue to shrink until the remaining four contestants compete in person on Mar. 6 at 6 p.m. for a chance to win a $1,000 cash prize. You don’t have to be an expert in wine to compete; the competition is open to anyone that loves wine!
