Cultivating Talent: Washington Wine Industry Foundation Announces $47,000 in Scholarship Awards

September 28th – (Cashmere, WA) The Washington Wine Industry Foundation, a longstanding pillar of support for the Washington wine industry, proudly announces the recipients of its scholarship funds. These scholarships, ranging from $2,000 to $10,000, are awarded annually to exceptional undergraduate and graduate students pursuing studies in viticulture, enology, and wine business studies pursuing educational credentials at institutions of higher education within Washington state.

Since 2002, over $484,000 has been awarded to over 250 Washington students with $47,000 in scholarships awarded this year.

At a recent scholarship reception, eight outstanding scholars were chosen to carry forward the legacy of the Washington wine industry’s trailblazers, including:

  • Olivia Arellano – Viticulture/Enology program, Walla Walla CC (Certificate)
  • Pierre Davadant – Viticulture/Enology program, Walla Walla CC (Bachelor’s)
  • Bernadette Gagnier – Viticulture program, WSU (PhD)
  • Megan Siobhan Meharg – Viticulture/Enology & Food Science programs, WSU (Master’s)
  • Stephen Olusola Onayemi – Viticulture program, WSU (PhD)
  • Madelein Ped – Viticulture/Enology program, Walla Walla CC (Associate’s)
  • Eva Rickard – Wine Business Management program, WSU (Bachelor’s)
  • Madison Shaw – Viticulture/Enology & Wine Business program, WSU (Bachelor’s)

“These scholarship winners embody the spirit of scholarship, innovation, and cooperation that drives our industry forward. We are excited to see how their contributions will shape the future of the Washington wine industry,” said Vicky Scharlau, Executive Director of the Washington Wine Industry Foundation.

The Washington Wine Industry Foundation curates several scholarship funds from wine industry benefactors, including:

  • Foundation Fund Scholarship
  • Walter J. Clore Scholarship
  • Horse Heaven Hills Wine Grower Scholarship
  • George & Susan Carter Scholarship
  • Albert Don Memorial Scholarship
  • The Alliance of Women in Washington Wine Scholarship
