Codevilla (Pavia), 26th September 2023 – La Genisia’s exciting challenge in the U.S. market has begun, and the winery’s precise intention is to introduce itself overseas as a new pioneer of its homeland, Oltrepò Pavese, and its iconic wines.

Nestled along the 45th parallel that unites the world’s great wine regions and is considered the ideal latitude of great wines, Oltrepò Pavese is a land of extraordinary vocation for the production of quality wines. It is the third-largest region in Europe for Pinot Noir production and the third-largest among the Italian appellations. A harmonious succession of hills with fertile soils where the marine Mediterranean climate of nearby Liguria alternates with the more continental climate of the Po’ river Valley. A diversity that is a guarantee of productive richness of great value.

In the U.S., the wine company from Codevilla (Pavia) is present not only with its iconic Pinot Noir Doc, but also with a second label, the Cabernet Sauvignon Doc.

“Here, the grapes ripen slowly – says the winemaker Simone Fiori – developing aromatic complexity with notes of black fruit accompanied by a distinctive varietal note. It is a privilege to work with such a versatile grape variety in our land.”

The Cabernet Sauvignon DOC by La Genisia is a full-bodied wine with a round taste and balanced acidity. It exhibits a brilliant ruby red color with garnet highlights and offers an intense bouquet with fruity notes of red and black plums, cherries and the characteristic vegetal notes of the grape variety. On the palate, it offers a full body and a smooth texture with well-balanced tannins making it an approachable wine that reveals a significant complexity and a delightful finish.

The grapes are harvested well ripe and destemmed before crushing. Primary fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel, with daily pumping over to ensure complete color extraction. Next, the wine is transferred to second and third-passage French oak barrels for about a year. As the wine ages, it acquires a more complex structure, a richer mouthfeel and greater integration of aromas and flavors, and then is further aged in bottle for at least 3 months. Cabernet Sauvignon’s complexity and smoothness make it ideal for a wide range of culinary dishes, from grilled meat to roast lamb and grilled vegetables seasoned with herbs.
