August 14th – Stomping Horse is the love and creation of three friends turned business partners destined to share their love of wine and equine with the world. A combination of business, creative, and horse-crazed love created what has become Stomping Horse wines – silly neighmes sensational wines.
The cover label model is Trouper – a rescued grey off-the-track thoroughbred who decided racing wasn’t for him. Rescued from horrific conditions – he now lives his best life at his forever home in Connecticut. He inspired this story so Stomping Horse helps to save others by donating to horse rescue and aftercare.
What started as a fun play on words for wines like Chardonneigh and Thoroughblend turned into a fully focused business with a fantastic story with launch wines from Washington’s Columbia and Yakima Valleys. Stomping Horse entered the market August 2023 with its launch white varietal Chardonneigh – a 2021 Horse Heaven Hills Chardonnay – and its red varietal Thoroughblend – a 2020 red blend from the Columbia and Yakima Valleys.
Chardonneigh opens with classic elements of baked citrus and stone fruits. After time more serious aromas of zested lime are mixed with dried vanilla bean and toasted nuttiness. On the palate this Chardonnay layers ripeness with uplifting acidity. Thirst-quenching but balanced by the body this Chardonnay has a bright future in anyones cellar or glass. With Thoroughblend – the blend of sites allows warm vineyards to contribute jammy fruit and a lush mid-palate, while cool sites contribute bright acidity and balance. These varieties complement each other perfectly: Mourvèdre is dark fruited and spicy, Syrah is jammy and earthy, and Grenache is bright and juicy. Blended with a tiny amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, which contributes structure and tannin, and Viognier, which provides acidity and a floral note, this wine is greater than the sum of its parts and is a crowd pleaser for all types of palates.
