Lapostolle Announces the Release of La Parcelle 8 2018

Only Made in Exceptional Years, the Second U.S. Release of this Luxury Single-Vineyard Cabernet from the Estate’s Most Historic Site, Makes its Debut

NEW YORK, NY (May 2, 2023) – Family-owned and world-renowned luxury Chilean brand, Lapostolle, is pleased to announce the second U.S. release of La Parcelle 8, the winery’s singular expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Apalta Valley. Available now through Winebow Imports, the single block varietal wine is a product of the exceptional terroir of Apalta and the French winemaking expertise of the Bournet-Lapostolle family.

In 1994, Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle of the acclaimed fine wines and spirits family, and her husband Cyril de Bournet, ventured to the Apalta Valley seeking a new location to expand the family’s legacy in the New World. What they discovered was a breathtaking vineyard block of remarkable hundred-year-old ungrafted Cabernet Sauvignon vines growing from original pre-phylloxera Bordeaux rootstock. Thriving with little to no human intervention, the site showed great potential, and the family purchased the property, marking the establishment of their Chilean chapter in Apalta. Named after this eponymous vineyard block, La Parcelle 8 is a single block Cabernet Sauvignon that is true to its origins, showcasing the character and quality of its terroir and old vines.

La Parcelle 8 benefits from the unique geography of Apalta, enveloped by the Tinguiririca River on the south side of the Lapostolle estate and the hills from the Coastal Cordillera that surround the vineyard like a horseshoe, protecting it from the extreme influences of the Andes and the Pacific. With a special meso-climate best described as semi-dry Mediterranean with a rainy winter season and long dry summers, the conditions of Apalta stand apart from the rest of the Colchagua Valley and aid in the production of balanced, elegant wines that show complexity, great structure, depth, color and aging potential.

Only produced in outstanding vintages, La Parcelle 8 reflects the winery’s commitment to creating exceptional wines that demonstrate the best of the Apalta terroir. At the helm of Lapostolle is seventh-generation Charles de Bournet, President and CEO of Domaines Bournet-Lapostolle, who works with Andrea León, Technical Director and Winemaker, to craft wines that honor the winery credo, French in essence, Chilean by birth.

“We take a careful approach to production to ensure quality in all our wines,” says de Bournet. “Sourced from some of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the world, La Parcelle 8 is only produced when optimal conditions permit us to create a truly magnificent vintage that is the finest expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from our own vineyards.”

The 2018 vintage saw a generous and healthy production with excellent flavor, relatively moderate alcohol levels and elegant freshness. Aged for 29 months in 100% new French oak barrels, the resulting wine is refined and well balanced, with deep and lively tannins, as is a distinctive style of the best Apalta wines.

“The conditions were ideal with this vintage, allowing for excellent shooting and flowering, prolonged fruit setting and maturation and a slow accumulation of sugars without a great loss of acidity,” says León. “It will be remembered as one of the greatest cold vintages of the 21st century in Chile and for Lapostolle.”

La Parcelle 8 2018 is available nationally through Winebow Imports at a suggested retail price of $180. For more information, please visit www.winebow.com/our-brands/lapostolle.
