February 28, 2023 – It is with great pleasure that Kale Consulting announces and welcomes Jane Jiang to their team as Assistant Winemaker. “Jane was instrumental during the 2022 harvest. She executed the style and quality that our clients demand. We are thrilled to have Jane on our growing team,” said owner Kale Anderson.
Jane was introduced to wine at an early age while living in China, as her parents were wine distributors there. They encouraged her to study Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis. “For the first two years (at UC Davis), I was still hesitating if it was the right major for me, but Dr. Heymann’s lectures on taste buds sparked my interest. In her lecture, she mentioned research has indicated that Asian people tend to receive more taste, but there are not too many Asian winemakers out there. With curiosity about the wine industry, I applied for a winery harvest internship. I was soon fascinated by the winemaking process and decided to pursue my dream of being a winemaker.”
In 2018, Jane took her first harvest internship at Anaba Wines, Sonoma County. After graduating from UC Davis with a double major BS Viticulture and Enology and BA Economics, she worked at Beaulieu Vineyard, Beringer Vineyards and Brasswood Cellars in the Napa Valley. In addition, Jane also worked abroad at Kirrihill Winery in Clare Valley, South Australia.
In 2021, Jane relaunched Duncan Peak Vineyards, a 107 acre property in Mendocino County with five acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah planted. Immediately, Jane oversaw the CCOF organic certification of the vineyards and is involved in all aspects of viticulture, winemaking, marketing and exporting the wines to China.
In Jane’s free time you will find her exploring restaurants and bubble tea shops with friends or playing the flute, ukulele, tennis, badminton and golf.
