The Most Difficult Vintage Assembled Provides Pleasing Results
St. Helena, CA, September 21, 2022 – Lang & Reed Napa Valley’s exploration of Cabernet Franc in California began twenty-seven vintages ago. An evolving quest that has required flexibility and resilience as of late, Lang & Reed has released a new iteration of their cherished varietal, the 2020 Cabernet Franc, California. Despite the worst fires in Napa Valley history and the operational challenges presented by a worldwide pandemic, this vintage has proven to be worth the great efforts. Unable to work with some of their usual vineyards, the 2020 Cabernet Franc includes the excellent addition of a vineyard in Cienega Valley in California’s Central Coast. Complementing other established grape sources, including fruit from the T Bar T Ranch in Alexander Valley in Sonoma and the famed Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard in Napa Valley, both Loire Valley originated Entav 214 clones, the synergistic assemblage is deserving of the Lang & Reed name.
A fairly deep colored wine with aromatics that seem to jump from the glass, the 2020 Cabernet Franc, California showcases deep berry fruit and plum compote mixes with pretty dried herbs and brushy earthy tones. On the palate, dense flavors of similar black fruit linger with a fresh tartness and texture of soft silky tannins. This is the perfect ‘Summer to Fall’ red wine to enjoy with those last moments of outdoor feasting as we await the cold snap of Autumn and the welcome of heartier meals.
